The UAE government has recently made a $35 million donation to Children’s National Hospital, focusing on prenatal, neonatal, and maternal health. This donation strengthens a 30-year partnership between the UAE and the hospital, which has resulted in numerous medical breakthroughs and 82 US patents. Emirati families often travel to Children’s National for advanced pediatric care, making this investment crucial for ongoing research and treatment initiatives.

The Centre for Prenatal, Neonatal, and Maternal Health Research and the Zickler Family Prenatal Pediatrics Institute will benefit from this donation, allowing researchers to focus on perinatal factors’ impact on child development. Studies conducted will shed light on conditions like heart disease, maternal infections, and their implications on long-term outcomes. The donation will support innovative medical care and positively impact children and families worldwide.

Established in 2009, the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation at Children’s National is a world-class research center funded largely through external grants. This institute pioneers autonomous robotic surgery and uses artificial intelligence to enhance pediatric medicine and health equity. The UAE Ambassador to the United States emphasizes the transformative impact of the partnership on children worldwide.

The Children’s National Research & Innovation Campus, supported by the UAE in 2019, is the first pediatric innovation hub. It houses the Rare Disease Institute and the Centre for Genetic Medicine Research, focused on advancing pediatric health through research and care. This collaboration contributes to better understanding genetic health impacts and identifying biochemical analytes for treatment.

Since opening a medical office in Washington, D.C., in 1991, thousands of Emirati patients have received life-changing care at Children’s National for conditions like heart disease and cancer. The hospital currently treats 40 Emirati patients, providing specialized care to address their unique needs. Emirati families highlight the hospital’s dedication to children’s health and the valuable international collaboration that benefits pediatric healthcare.

In conclusion, the UAE’s continuous support of Children’s National Hospital underscores a deep commitment to advancing pediatric healthcare through innovative research, cutting-edge treatments, and international partnerships. The recent $35 million donation will further enable groundbreaking research in prenatal, neonatal, and maternal health, ultimately benefiting children and families globally. This longstanding partnership has transformed countless lives and highlights the importance of collaboration in improving child health outcomes.
