Khalifa University of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi, UAE, has recently gained recognition for its remarkable faculty members, with 15 being listed among the Highly Ranked Scholars in the ‘Top 0.05 per cent worldwide’. This accolade comes from ScholarGPS, a platform that acknowledges exceptional international scholars for their significant contributions across various research fields. Additionally, 29 faculty members from the same institution have been ranked in the top 0.5 per cent of scholars globally. This prestigious list is a testament to the university’s commitment to excellence in research and innovation.

The ‘Highly Ranked Scholars’ designation is awarded to authors who are within the top 0.05 per cent in their field, discipline, or across all fields, based on the impact of their publications, measured by citations and high h-index scores. These distinguished scholars are part of an elite group at the forefront of global research. ScholarGPS analyzes over 30 million scholar profiles from more than 200 million scholarly publications to determine these rankings. The rankings take into account a scholar’s lifetime or five-year research activity, with a focus on publications, citations, and the exclusion of self-citations.

Prof Ahmed Al Durra, Associate Provost for Research at Khalifa University, expressed pride in the institution’s faculty members’ achievements, stating that the university remains a leader in the UAE in terms of world-class faculty experts driving research and innovation. The faculty members recognized by ScholarGPS represent over 22 per cent of the UAE’s total faculty. Moreover, 90 faculty members from Khalifa University were also acknowledged in the prestigious 2023 Stanford University World Ranking, highlighting the top 2 per cent of the most influential researchers globally. This recognition underscores the university’s dedication to attracting global talent in STEM fields and fostering an environment conducive to scientific exploration.

Khalifa University’s Industrial Engineering and Operations Research discipline is ranked #53 globally in the ‘Global Discipline Lifetime’ category, with Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering following closely at #54. Chemical Engineering is ranked #137, and Electrical and Computer Engineering is at #160, positioning the university within the top 200 in these areas. In the past five years, the university has published 7,340 papers, accumulating a total of 91,528 citations. These rankings affirm Khalifa University’s standing as a leading institution in research and academic excellence.

The recognition received by Khalifa University faculty members from ScholarGPS and Stanford University is a reflection of the UAE’s commitment to fostering research and innovation. The country’s focus on attracting global talent in STEM fields aligns with its efforts to create an environment conducive to scientific exploration and problem-solving. By celebrating faculty accomplishments, Khalifa University not only brings honor to itself but also elevates the UAE’s status as a forward-thinking nation with progressive policies that support research and innovation. The continued success of the university’s faculty members in various disciplines underscores their dedication to advancing knowledge and making meaningful contributions to their respective fields.
