The inaugural Esports World Cup in Riyadh, under the patronage of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, recently concluded after eight weeks of intense gaming competition. With a prize pool exceeding $60 million, the event showcased approximately 500 teams and 1,500 professional players, making it the largest event in esports history. The Saudi club “Team Falcons” emerged as the champions, earning $7 million in prize money and demonstrating the Kingdom’s exceptional talent in the esports sector.

The Esports World Cup brought together players, fans, game developers, and publishers from around the world, marking a significant milestone for the esports industry. With over 32 side entertainment and cultural activities, the Esports World Cup recorded more than 500 million viewers and over 250 million hours watched during its eight-week run, setting a new global record for the year. The gaming and esports sector is one of the fastest-growing industries globally, with the market reaching $200 billion in 2023. The success of the Esports World Cup further solidifies the Kingdom’s position as a premier global destination for hosting major events and activities.

The event’s success highlights the Kingdom’s commitment to fostering the growth of the esports industry and promoting Saudi Arabia as a hub for international esports competitions. With plans to host the Olympic Esports Games in 2025, the Kingdom continues to position itself as a leader in the global esports landscape. The Kingdom’s recognition of esports as a promising investment opportunity and its support for industry development showcase its dedication to innovation and diversification of the economy.
