Saudi Arabia will be hosting a donors’ conference to support displaced persons and refugees in the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin on October 26th. The conference is being organized by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) in cooperation with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and in coordination with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The aim of the conference is to address the severe humanitarian crises affecting Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, and Mali.

The conference comes in response to the decision taken during the 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC member countries. It will feature a high-level session where various speakers will discuss the challenges faced by displaced persons and refugees in the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin. The conference also aims to raise awareness about the displacement and asylum crisis in the region and to mobilize financial resources for immediate humanitarian response as well as future challenges in this part of Africa.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) plays a key role in organizing and hosting the donors’ conference, working closely with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations agencies. The conference will take place at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah and is expected to attract a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, donor organizations, and NGOs. By bringing together these diverse actors, the conference hopes to foster collaboration and coordination in addressing the humanitarian crises in the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin.

The humanitarian situation in the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin is dire, with millions of people affected by conflict, displacement, and food insecurity. The ongoing violence in the region has forced many families to flee their homes in search of safety and assistance. The donors’ conference aims to provide much-needed support for these vulnerable populations, including access to food, shelter, healthcare, and other essential services. By mobilizing financial resources and raising awareness about the crisis, the conference seeks to make a positive impact on the lives of displaced persons and refugees in the region.

In addition to addressing the immediate humanitarian needs of displaced persons and refugees, the donors’ conference also seeks to build resilience and promote long-term solutions for the crisis in the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin. By investing in education, livelihoods, and community development programs, the conference aims to empower displaced populations to rebuild their lives and create a more stable and sustainable future. Through strategic partnerships and collaborative efforts, the conference hopes to lay the foundation for lasting peace and prosperity in the region.

Overall, the donors’ conference in support of displaced persons and refugees in the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin represents a significant opportunity for the international community to come together and make a difference in the lives of millions of people affected by conflict and displacement. By working collectively to address the humanitarian crises in the region, stakeholders can help alleviate suffering, promote stability, and create a brighter future for vulnerable populations in the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin.
