The State of Qatar recently participated in the 25th meeting of the undersecretaries of the GCC Audit and Accounting Bureaus, which took place via videoconferencing. HE Sheikh Fahad bin Hamad Al Thani, Deputy President of the State Audit Bureau, represented Qatar at the meeting. The discussions focused on plans to enhance cooperation and partnership with the INTOSAI Development Initiative, the updated Financial Control Guide, and the recommendations from the 36th meeting of the Training and Development Committee for Employees of Financial Oversight and Accounting Bodies of the GCC.

One of the key topics of discussion during the meeting was the plan to strengthen collaboration with the INTOSAI Development Initiative. This initiative aims to promote good governance and enhance the effectiveness of public sector auditing. By partnering with the INTOSAI Development Initiative, the GCC Audit and Accounting Bureaus can benefit from valuable resources and support to improve their auditing practices and promote transparency and accountability in the region.

Another important agenda item at the meeting was the updated Financial Control Guide (General Guide). This guide serves as a vital resource for financial oversight and accounting bodies in the GCC, providing guidelines and best practices for ensuring effective financial control and accountability. The discussions at the meeting likely focused on the updates and revisions made to the guide, as well as strategies for implementing these changes across the member states.

The recommendations from the 36th meeting of the Training and Development Committee for Employees of Financial Oversight and Accounting Bodies of the GCC were also on the agenda. These recommendations likely addressed various aspects of professional development and capacity building for employees in the field of financial oversight and accounting. By implementing these recommendations, the GCC member states can strengthen their workforce and enhance the skills and expertise of their employees in this critical field.

Overall, the participation of the State of Qatar in the 25th meeting of the GCC Audit and Accounting Bureaus demonstrates the country’s commitment to enhancing collaboration and cooperation with its regional counterparts in the field of auditing and accounting. By engaging in these discussions and sharing best practices and insights with other member states, Qatar can contribute to the advancement of financial oversight and accountability in the GCC region. The outcomes of this meeting are likely to lead to concrete actions and initiatives that will benefit the public sector auditing and accounting practices in the region.
