Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani recently led Qatar’s delegation at the ‘Summit of the Future,’ held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79) in New York. During the summit, HE the Prime Minister emphasized Qatar’s commitment to international multilateral action and its contribution to global initiatives. This includes financial pledges to support United Nations agencies and initiatives to alleviate poverty and promote sustainable growth in developing countries.

HE the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of international cooperation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and addressing challenges such as armed conflicts, climate change, and economic instability. He stressed the need for enhanced global governance, financial reform, and climate action to ensure sustainable economic growth and social welfare. Additionally, he emphasized the significance of establishing peace and stability to foster development, mentioning Qatar’s efforts in mediation and conflict resolution.

Qatar is actively participating in various mediation efforts, including brokering a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel in partnership with Egypt and the United States. HE the Prime Minister called on all parties to the conflict to prioritize peace, release prisoners and hostages, and adhere to international humanitarian law. Furthermore, Qatar is proud to host the Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2) in 2025, which aims to bring together global participants to address key social and development challenges.

The Summit of the Future focuses on five main themes, including sustainable development and financing, peace and security, a digital future for all, youth and future generations, and global governance. The summit aims to enhance cooperation on global challenges, bridge gaps in governance, and reaffirm commitments to the SDGs and the UN Charter. The event will conclude with the issuance of the Pact for the Future, the Global Digital Compact, and the Declaration on Future Generations, which will be adopted by participating countries.

In conclusion, the Summit of the Future serves as a platform for global leaders to address pressing issues and work towards a more sustainable and inclusive future. Qatar’s participation reaffirms its commitment to international cooperation and development, as well as its dedication to promoting peace, stability, and prosperity on the global stage. Through initiatives and financial pledges, Qatar continues to play a vital role in advancing the SDGs and supporting vulnerable countries in their development efforts.
