Qatar recently participated in the 11th meeting of the joint committee of experts and representatives of the ministries of justice and interior in Arab countries. The purpose of this meeting was to study the draft Arab convention on the status of refugees in the Arab countries. The meeting was organized by the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Justice Ministers at the headquarters of the Arab League General Secretariat in Cairo. Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Maha Bakhit, Head of the Arab League Legal Affairs Department, highlighted that the meeting focused on analyzing the articles of the draft convention to prepare for presenting the results at the upcoming session of the Council of Arab Justice Ministers in November. This initiative is in line with a decision made at the 39th session of the Council of Arab Justice Ministers on October 16.

The participation of Qatar in this meeting signifies its commitment to addressing the issue of refugees in the Arab countries. By contributing to the discussions surrounding the draft convention, Qatar is actively involved in finding solutions to the challenges faced by refugees in the region. The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Interior of Qatar played a key role in representing the country at the meeting, showcasing the government’s dedication to addressing legal and security issues related to refugees. Qatar’s involvement in this process demonstrates its proactive approach towards regional cooperation on refugee matters, highlighting its commitment to upholding humanitarian values and protecting the rights of refugees.

The collaboration between the ministries of justice and interior in Arab countries during the meeting is crucial for developing a comprehensive and effective framework for addressing the status of refugees in the region. By bringing together experts and representatives from relevant authorities, the meeting provides a platform for exchanging ideas, sharing best practices, and working towards common goals. The discussions and analysis of the draft convention will help in identifying areas that require further attention and refinement, ensuring that the final agreement reflects the collective input and expertise of all member states. This inclusive approach to decision-making fosters a sense of unity and cooperation among Arab countries, paving the way for a more coordinated and sustainable response to the refugee crisis.

Dr. Maha Bakhit’s leadership and guidance as the Head of the Arab League Legal Affairs Department were instrumental in ensuring the success of the meeting. Her expertise in legal matters and her dedication to promoting justice and human rights have been invaluable in shaping the discussions and guiding the participants towards constructive outcomes. Under her direction, the committee of experts was able to progress in their analysis of the draft convention, laying the groundwork for presenting comprehensive recommendations at the upcoming session of the Council of Arab Justice Ministers. Dr. Bakhit’s commitment to advancing legal frameworks that protect the rights of refugees in the Arab countries is evident in her active involvement in this important initiative.

Overall, Qatar’s participation in the 11th meeting of the joint committee of experts and representatives of the ministries of justice and interior in Arab countries underscores the country’s proactive approach towards addressing refugee issues.
