Violence in the healthcare sector is a serious issue that is consistently addressed by institutions like the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) in Doha, Qatar. PHCC is dedicated to protecting its staff from all forms of violence, whether verbal or physical, through preventive programs, violence management programs, and developmental initiatives. Specific measures have been implemented for employees through awareness and training programs to reduce violence and handle emergency situations effectively.

Coordination and collaboration with relevant departments have been established to develop procedures and consolidate joint efforts to address cases of violence and prevent recurrence at all PHCC healthcare service sites. The corporation has also launched the “Let’s Care for Those Who Care for Us” campaign to raise awareness among school students about violence and promote mutual kindness and respect towards healthcare workers.

Violence, whether physical or verbal, is a critical issue facing society globally, regionally, and locally, affecting individuals from all age groups and societal segments. The concept of violence involves causing harm to others and has immediate physical and moral impacts in the short and long term. Violence in the workplace can lead to damage to personal or public property, as well as disruptions in service delivery and financial losses.

On the International Day of Non-Violence in the Workplace, the emphasis is placed on mutual respect and the value of good conduct in Islamic faith and Arab societal traditions. These principles highlight the importance of treating others well on both personal and professional levels, promoting a culture of respect in homes, institutions, and society as a whole. Healthcare workers, in particular, are often exposed to physical and verbal violence from beneficiaries of healthcare services, leading to property damage and disruptions in service delivery, ultimately harming the reputation of healthcare institutions.

In response to the prevalence of violence in healthcare settings, PHCC has developed immediate and long-term programs and solutions to manage and address cases of violence. The Occupational Health and Safety Department at PHCC is committed to addressing violence against healthcare workers, providing support to minimize verbal and physical assaults on both staff and clients across all facilities in Qatar. Through ongoing awareness and training programs, PHCC aims to create a safe and respectful workplace environment for healthcare workers and service recipients alike.

In conclusion, violence in the healthcare sector is a widespread issue that requires proactive measures to prevent and address incidents of violence against healthcare workers. By implementing preventive programs, awareness campaigns, and collaboration with relevant departments, institutions like PHCC are working towards creating a safe and respectful work environment for healthcare staff and service recipients. Through mutual respect and kindness, we can promote a culture of non-violence and support those who dedicate their lives to caring for others.
