The Ministry of Health in Muscat recently launched the first edition of the “National Guideline for Medical and Surgical Sterilisation”. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, and included a presentation on the history of sterilisation in Oman, its development stages, and achievements in the field. The guideline aims to ensure that Omani health workers adhere to the latest international standards in sterilisation.

Dr. Amal bint Saif Al-Maani, Director General of Disease Surveillance and Control at the Ministry of Health, highlighted the importance of sterilisation services in protecting patients. She emphasized the role of sterilisation in maintaining the safety and quality of medical and surgical instruments used in healthcare institutions. Dr. Abdullah bin Salem Al-Quyoudi, Director of the Prevention and Infection Control Department, discussed the development of sterilisation services in Oman, as well as the Ministry’s efforts to educate and train healthcare professionals to enhance the quality and safety of services.

One of the key achievements mentioned during the ceremony was the launch of a diploma programme for sterilisation technicians in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour. This initiative aims to further improve the standards of sterilisation services in Oman. The issuance of the National Guide for Medical and Surgical Sterilisation is seen as a significant milestone in enhancing the overall sterilisation programme in the country. This initiative reflects the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the highest standards of sterilisation in healthcare facilities.

During the event, the head of the Sterilisation Services Department introduced an interactive session using artificial intelligence technology, featuring a virtual character. This innovative technology is a first for the Ministry of Health and will be used as a research tool in the national directory for medical and surgical sterilisation. The use of artificial intelligence in this context demonstrates the Ministry’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance sterilisation practices and improve patient safety.

Overall, the launch of the National Guideline for Medical and Surgical Sterilisation marks a significant step forward in enhancing the standards of sterilisation services in Oman. The Ministry of Health’s focus on education, training, and the use of innovative technologies underscores its dedication to ensuring the safety and quality of healthcare services in the country. By adhering to the latest international standards and incorporating advanced technologies, Oman is well-positioned to further strengthen its sterilisation programme and improve patient outcomes.
