Saudi Arabia has made significant progress in enhancing and sustaining vegetation cover in the Kingdom, with the planting of more than 95 million trees since the launch of the Saudi Green Initiative in 2021. These efforts have been attributed to the combined contributions of the National Afforestation Program and various partners from the governmental, private, and non-profit sectors. In addition to tree planting, over 118,000 hectares of degraded vegetation cover lands have been rehabilitated, and 4.3 million hectares of land have been protected while under rehabilitation. The number of natural growths in measured areas has reached 7.1 million, signaling clear progress towards achieving the goals of the initiative.

Through collaborative efforts with 121 entities from different sectors, including governmental, private, and non-profit, Saudi Arabia is working towards common national goals of increasing afforestation efforts. These partnerships are crucial in achieving the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative and the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which aim to reduce carbon emissions, improve the quality of life, and mitigate the effects of climate change. The commitment to strengthening partnerships with all sectors reflects a shared responsibility towards sustainable environmental development and achieving a thriving and sustainable vegetation cover in the Kingdom.

The National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification plays a key role in protecting and monitoring vegetation cover sites, rehabilitating deteriorating lands, detecting encroachments, and combating logging. Additionally, the center oversees the management of pasture lands, forests, and national parks, providing investment opportunities to enhance sustainable environmental development. These efforts align with the broader vision of creating a greener and more sustainable Kingdom, in line with global efforts to combat climate change and preserve natural ecosystems.

The achievements in afforestation and vegetation cover restoration in Saudi Arabia highlight the country’s commitment to environmental preservation and sustainable development. By planting millions of trees and rehabilitating degraded lands, the Kingdom is not only enhancing its natural landscapes but also contributing to global efforts to combat climate change. Through strategic partnerships and collaborative initiatives, Saudi Arabia is working towards achieving a more sustainable future for its citizens and the planet as a whole.

The benefits of these afforestation efforts extend beyond environmental conservation, with positive impacts on biodiversity, ecosystem services, and sustainable land management. By protecting and restoring vegetation cover, Saudi Arabia is creating habitats for wildlife, improving soil fertility, and enhancing water retention in arid regions. These efforts contribute to building resilience against climate change impacts and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Kingdom’s natural resources.

In conclusion, Saudi Arabia’s achievements in afforestation and vegetation cover restoration demonstrate the country’s leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development. By planting millions of trees and rehabilitating degraded lands, the Kingdom is making significant strides towards achieving its goals of reducing carbon emissions, improving quality of life, and mitigating climate change effects. Through partnerships and collaboration with various sectors, Saudi Arabia is paving the way for a greener and more sustainable future, both for its citizens and the global community.
