In the second quarter of 2024, municipal inspectors in Doha, Qatar made over 96,000 inspection visits to food outlets across the country. The highest number of violations were recorded in Doha Municipality, followed by Al Rayyan Municipality, Al Wakra Municipality, Umm Salal Municipality, and other municipalities.

Specifically, 11 food outlets were closed in Al Khor Municipality for violations, as well as outlets in Doha Municipality, Al Wakra Municipality, Umm Salal Municipality, Al Rayyan Municipality, Al Daayen Municipality, and Al Sheehaniya Municipality. A total of 1,636 food samples were taken to the central laboratory for testing, and 12,000 public complaints were addressed promptly. Veterinary teams inspected 100,000 slaughtered animals, resulting in the destruction of 1,120 animals and 39,000 kg of meat deemed unfit for consumption.

Furthermore, 317 tonnes of fish were inspected, with 1.37 tonnes destroyed for not meeting quality standards. The municipalities also issued 1,339 building permits, 14,000 advertisement permits, and conducted 39,000 campaigns to combat insects and rodents. In addition, 58 awareness lectures were organized, and 37 community partnerships established to support local initiatives. To enhance the local ecosystem, the municipalities planted 1,357 trees to promote greenery and climate preservation.

The inspection campaign not only focused on food safety but also on various other aspects of public health and environmental conservation. By addressing public complaints promptly and taking measures to ensure the quality of food products, the municipalities demonstrated their commitment to ensuring the well-being of residents. Additionally, by conducting awareness campaigns and partnering with community entities, they are actively engaging with the public to promote shared responsibility for maintaining a healthy and sustainable environment. Through these efforts, the municipalities are working towards creating a safe and environmentally-friendly living environment for all residents.
