Members of the Ministerial Committee assigned by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit on developments in the Gaza Strip recently held a coordination meeting in Amman. Chaired by Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Saudi minister of foreign affairs, the meeting aimed to coordinate joint Arab and Islamic efforts during the upcoming 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Key topics discussed included efforts to stop Israeli aggression in Gaza, the dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank, the ongoing humanitarian crisis, and ensuring the delivery of aid to affected areas.

During the meeting, ministers explored ways to strengthen Arab and Islamic efforts at the General Assembly to support the recognition of the Palestinian state, fulfill the rights of the Palestinian people, and promote security and peace in the region and the world. They also discussed joint efforts to implement the two-state solution by establishing a Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant international initiatives.

Participants at the meeting included Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan Ayman Safadi, Prime Minister of Palestine and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye Hakan Fidan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration of Egypt Ambassador Nabil Habash, Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Hissein Brahim Taha.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from Saudi Arabia, including Ambassador to Jordan Naif Al-Sudairi, Director General of the Office of Saudi Foreign Minister Abdulrahman AlDawood, and Counsellor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Manal Radwan. The gathering emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity among Arab and Islamic countries in addressing the ongoing crisis in Gaza and advocating for the rights of the Palestinian people at the international level.

As preparations continue for the upcoming UN General Assembly session, the ministers highlighted the urgency of taking concrete actions to end Israeli aggression in Gaza, address the humanitarian needs of the Palestinian population, and work towards a lasting solution that upholds the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people. They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause and ensuring that the international community remains engaged in efforts to achieve a just and sustainable resolution to the conflict in the region.

In conclusion, the Ministerial Committee’s coordination meeting in Amman served as an important platform for Arab and Islamic countries to come together and strategize on how best to address the crisis in Gaza and advance the Palestinian cause at the upcoming UN General Assembly. By working collectively and advocating for the rights of the Palestinian people, the ministers aim to amplify their voices on the global stage and push for concrete actions that will lead to a peaceful and prosperous future for all those affected by the conflict.
