The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in Oman recently organized a two-day mountain hiking event in Wadi Bani Khalid, located in the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. The event drew over 150 hikers from different regions across the country. The first day of the hike started at the picturesque water pools of Wadi Bani Khalid, with participants traveling through several villages like Al Sahf, Al Safa, Al Maysem, and Hayl Al Naqa. The day ended at the mountainous village of Hloot, covering a distance of 20 kilometers and reaching a peak elevation of 2,050 meters above sea level.

On the second day of the event, hikers will depart from Hloot village and descend a 10-kilometer dirt path before taking on an 11-kilometer mountainous trail. This route will lead them to the village of Seema in the Tiwi township, located in the Wilayat of Sur in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate. The final part of the event includes a 9-kilometer stretch along a paved road, concluding under the Tiwi Bridge. In total, participants will have covered a challenging yet rewarding distance of 50 kilometers, showcasing the beauty and diversity of Oman’s landscape.

The mountain hiking event in Wadi Bani Khalid offers participants a unique opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the region while challenging themselves physically. The rugged terrain, stunning views, and welcoming villages along the route provide hikers with a memorable experience that combines adventure and cultural immersion. The event also highlights the efforts of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism to promote outdoor activities and sustainable tourism in Oman, encouraging both locals and tourists to discover the country’s hidden gems.

Hiking enthusiasts and nature lovers alike will appreciate the opportunity to participate in such a well-organized and scenic event, showcasing the diversity of Oman’s landscape and the warm hospitality of its people. The mountainous route through Wadi Bani Khalid offers hikers a chance to test their skills and endurance while enjoying breathtaking views and cultural interactions along the way. With participants coming from various governorates and regions across the country, the event fosters a sense of community and shared experience among attendees, creating lasting memories and connections.

The mountain hiking event in Wadi Bani Khalid is not only a physical challenge but also a cultural journey, allowing participants to learn more about the history, traditions, and lifestyle of the villages they pass through. By exploring the lesser-known parts of Oman and engaging with local communities, hikers gain a deeper appreciation for the country’s heritage and natural beauty. The event also promotes responsible tourism and environmental awareness, encouraging participants to respect the land and leave no trace behind, ensuring the preservation of the region for future generations to enjoy.

Overall, the mountain hiking event in Wadi Bani Khalid is a testament to Oman’s commitment to promoting outdoor recreation, cultural exchange, and sustainable tourism. By organizing such events, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism showcases the country’s natural wonders and invites both locals and visitors to experience the beauty of Oman’s landscape firsthand.
