The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in collaboration with the General Secretariat of the Tender Board, has recently announced the award of seven vital projects in Oman worth over OMR119 million. These projects aim to upgrade the road network system in the Sultanate, improve traffic safety, and stimulate tourism, commercial, and social movement in various governorates.

One of the major projects includes the construction of five bridges on the dual road from Sohar to Al Buraimi, with a total cost of OMR6 million. These bridges will be reconstructed to ensure the safety of road users and maintain the efficiency of the road network to support economic activity in the region. The project also includes the addition of iron and concrete protections and ground paints according to the Omani Road Design Guide 2017.

Another significant project that has been awarded is the Izki-Nizwa dual carriageway project at a cost of OMR46.8 million. This project aims to raise the quality of roads, support tourism, reduce traffic congestion, and improve traffic flow on main roads. The 32-kilometer project starts from the southern Qarout roundabout in Izki and ends at the Lulu roundabout in Nizwa, with the installation of a traffic light and the establishment of 10 roundabouts to facilitate road users’ movement.

The completion of the Al-Ubaila-Al-Fayyadh Road in Al Buraimi Governorate is another project that the Ministry has assigned, with a total cost of OMR19.4 million. This 40-kilometer road includes two lanes with asphalt shoulders, dirt shoulders, box culverts, and two bridges, designed according to the Road Design Manual 2017. The road aims to facilitate traffic, strengthen social ties, and stimulate economic and tourism activity in the region.

In Dhofar Governorate, the Raysut-Al Mughsail road dualisation project has been awarded at a cost of OMR34.8 million. This 33-kilometer project includes the construction of bridges, overpasses, underpasses, and animal crossings to improve the connection between tourist sites. The project will also ensure the safety and security of road users with necessary protections.

The completion works of the Saih Qatna project in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar have also been awarded at a cost of OMR4.5 million. This project includes upgrading a 9.200 km road starting from the main road in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar to the Riyadh farm, with two lanes, asphalt and cement shoulders, and construction according to approved standard specifications. Overall, these projects aim to enhance the infrastructure in Oman, support economic growth, and improve connectivity between different regions.
