The recent UAE Cabinet meeting, chaired by the Dubai Ruler, focused on various initiatives aimed at improving the economy, society, and overall quality of life in the Emirates. One of the key programs launched is ‘Plant the Emirates,’ which aims to increase local produce and develop agriculture in the region. The initiative involves planting more trees, increasing the number of farms, and reducing agricultural waste while partnering with various institutions and organising events to showcase agricultural products.

Another significant project discussed in the meeting is the Biodiversity Sites Project, which identified nine key biodiversity sites in the UAE, including various sanctuaries and reserves for different species. The project aims to increase the percentage of protected areas among these sites and promote biodiversity conservation efforts in the country.

The meeting also highlighted various economic achievements and partnerships, such as the implementation of the UAE Circular Economy Agenda 2031 and the ratification of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the Republic of Mauritius to promote fair trade and economic cooperation. Additionally, restructuring committees were established to combat financial crimes and enhance consumer protection in the country.

The UAE also announced its accession to the Antarctic Treaty of 1959 and its observer status in the Arctic Council to promote international scientific cooperation. The country signed extradition treaties with Sweden and established agreements with various nations on civil defence, financial cooperation, and renewable energy. The UAE is set to host major international events focusing on child protection, postal services, climate change, and medical education.

Furthermore, the UAE elevated the National Award for Culture and Creativity to the Emirates Medal for Culture and Creativity to support cultural and creative endeavors. The Cabinet approved new resolutions on amendments to laws concerning medically assisted reproduction and common customs laws. A grace period was granted for registered beneficiaries to update their tax records without penalties.

The meeting, chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, discussed various initiatives and partnerships that will contribute to the continued growth and development of the UAE’s economy and society. The country’s commitment to sustainability, conservation, and international cooperation was highlighted throughout the meeting, showcasing its dedication to progress and innovation.
