Bahraini artist Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa recently debuted his first solo exhibition, “Continuum,” at the Credo Bonum Foundation in Sofia, Bulgaria, showcasing a diverse collection of artworks from various series. The exhibition aims to strengthen artistic and cultural ties between Bahrain and Bulgaria, providing opportunities for creative exchange and collaboration among artists from both countries. The showcased artworks include pieces from series such as Spectrum, Waves, and Les Roses de Bagatelle, each reflecting Rashid’s artistic evolution and unique perspective.

The Spectrum series offers a contemporary interpretation of Islamic art’s ‘rules of repetition,’ blending traditional aesthetic principles with modern Arab architecture influences. In contrast, the Waves series pays homage to Bahrain’s maritime history by intertwining rhythmic repetition with the island’s cultural heritage. Lastly, the Les Roses de Bagatelle series takes viewers on a delicate journey inspired by the flora of Château de Bagatelle, reflecting Rashid’s contemplation on the rose as both a natural entity and a metaphor.

Rashid Al Khalifa expressed his excitement for the exhibition, stating, “Continuum represents a celebration of tradition, culture, and the ever-evolving nature of art.” Through his series, Rashid aims to bridge cultural heritage with a contemporary perspective, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in a blend of tradition and modernity. The exhibition curator, Vessela Nozharova, highlighted Rashid’s artistic journey, noting his evolution from emotional figurative painting to abstract compositions and outdoor sculptures that experiment with materials, colors, and symbols.

Credo Bonum Foundation, founded by Tzvetelina Borislavova in 2006, is an independent non-governmental organization focused on promoting positive change in modern society through sustainability, environmentalism, and spreading positive thinking. The foundation serves as a platform for showcasing artists like Rashid Al Khalifa and fostering cultural exchange and dialogue among diverse artistic communities. The exhibition in Sofia serves as an opportunity for the audience to engage with Rashid’s unique artworks, which distill the beauty of the sea, sky, desert, and nature into refined forms that resonate with viewers.

Overall, Rashid Al Khalifa’s “Continuum” exhibition in Sofia, Bulgaria, represents a significant milestone in his artistic journey, showcasing his evolution as an artist and his ability to bridge cultural traditions with contemporary perspectives. The exhibition at the Credo Bonum Foundation serves as a platform for fostering artistic and cultural exchange between Bahrain and Bulgaria, providing opportunities for collaboration and dialogue among artists from both countries. Through his diverse series, Rashid invites viewers to explore themes of tradition, culture, and the ever-evolving nature of art, creating a symphony of creativity that resonates with audiences in Sofia and beyond.
