The Kingdom of Bahrain has experienced a significant increase in air conditioner imports in the first half of 2024. With a growing population and urban development, the demand for air conditioners has surged, leading to a 8.6% increase in the number of imported units compared to the same period in 2023. Additionally, the value of air conditioner imports saw a substantial jump of 42.1%, reaching BD10.47 million. This growth reflects residents’ need for relief from the hot temperatures experienced throughout the year in Bahrain.

China emerged as the top supplier of air conditioners to Bahrain, with imports valued at BD2.23 million in the first half of 2024, representing a remarkable 106.5% growth compared to the previous year. The United Arab Emirates followed closely, with imports reaching BD1.06 million, showing a 69.8% increase compared to 2023. India and Saudi Arabia also witnessed significant growth in their air conditioner exports to Bahrain during this period.

Centralised air conditioning systems (Freon) were the most popular type of air conditioner imported, accounting for 43% of Bahrain’s total imports in this sector. Air conditioners with cooling units and a capacity of 70,000 BTU or less also constituted a significant portion of imports. May 2024 emerged as the peak month for air conditioner imports, followed by June 2024, indicating strong demand leading up to the summer season.

As the demand for air conditioners continues to rise in Bahrain, suppliers from countries like China, the UAE, India, and Saudi Arabia are stepping up to meet this demand. With the majority of imports being centralised air conditioning systems, it is clear that residents in Bahrain are seeking efficient cooling solutions for their homes and businesses. May and June 2024 were particularly active months for air conditioner imports, showcasing the preparation for the hot summer months ahead.
