The Big 5 Global Impact Awards, an annual recognition of impact in the construction industry, has announced 113 outstanding finalists across 17 categories. This year’s finalists come from over 10 countries, including new entrants from India, Portugal, the Netherlands, and Uganda, showcasing the global reach of the awards. Two new dynamic categories have been introduced this year: Liveable City Initiative of the Year and Impact Leadership Team of the Year.

The Liveable City Initiative of the Year category features projects such as Cairo Metro Line 3 – Phase 3, Green IndustriCity, Msheireb Downtown Doha, Dubai’s Autopayment Parking System, and the Infrastructure Upgrade of Urban Areas in Doha City by Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal). These projects focus on making urban areas more liveable and sustainable for residents. The Impact Leadership Team of the Year category highlights the senior management teams driving impact for their businesses and the wider industry.

Government heavyweights like Diriyah Company, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Qatar Free Zones Authority, and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu are among this year’s finalists. Individuals such as Eng Fakher AlShawaf, Julie Alexander, Mohammed Al Breiki, and Karim Elnabawy Balbaa are also recognized for their contributions to the construction industry. The awards serve as a recognition for the remarkable work being undertaken by various stakeholders in the industry.

The projects, initiatives, and organizations showcased this year demonstrate a commitment to collaboration, sustainability, and the responsible integration of technologies to deliver a positive impact on the built environment. Nancy Greenwald, Executive Director of the Construction Institute and Big 5 Impact Awards judge, emphasizes the importance of advancing construction practices while promoting collaboration and sustainability. The awards aim to boost industry confidence and recognize excellence in the construction sector.

The Big 5 Global Impact Awards ceremony will take place on November 27, 2024, at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai. The event will recognize sustainable development, collaboration, technological advancements, and digital achievements in the construction industry. Projects like the Infrastructure Upgrade of Urban Areas in Doha City by Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) serve as examples of innovative practices driving impact and improvement in urban areas. The awards highlight the significant contributions of industry leaders and project teams towards sustainable and innovative construction practices.
