The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) has recently announced the opening of registration for the 2024-25 annual winter camping season. The registration, which runs from October 15 to November 5, 2024, can be done through the MECC website and the ‘Bee’ah’ app. This winter season will be six and a half months long, starting on October 15, 2024, and concluding on April 30, 2025. Fees for winter camping have been reduced from QR10,000 to QR3,000 for all sites, with exemptions for people with disabilities and retirees.

During a press conference held at the MECC headquarters, the Director of Public Relations and Communication Department, Mohammed Ahmed Al Dahi, stated that first-time campers can set up their camps in designated sites after completing the booking process and obtaining the location and number of the camp. MECC inspectors will contact camp owners within 72 hours to ensure the coordinates of the winter camp are correctly fixed. A security deposit of QR10,000 is required for everyone, which will be refunded at the end of the camping season once the camp is removed and the site restored to its original condition.

The registration process for the winter camping season will be in three stages – the central region from October 15 to 17, the southern region from October 18 to 20, and the northern region from October 21 to 24. The remaining places in all three areas can be booked from October 25 to November 5, 2024. Additionally, three days have been allocated for people with mental disabilities to register through their authorized representatives. Public beaches are designated for families, and the requirement to stay at least 100 meters away from the beach has been canceled.

New decisions for this season include allowing those below 25 years old to obtain a camping permit and a fee of QR1,000 for amending the permit from one area to another. The Wildlife Protection Department headquarters, Green Qatar, will provide assistance to the elderly and people with disabilities who are unable to register electronically. Campers are advised to seek the help of specialists to connect electrical extensions to avoid electrical short circuit accidents. It is also recommended to leave a distance of 5 to 6 meters between tents and ensure they are equipped with necessary safety and security measures.

The General Directorate of Traffic is focused on reducing accidents and limiting deaths and injuries by preparing an integrated action plan every year. This plan aims to ensure safety for campers in all areas. By following safety guidelines and regulations set by the MECC and other relevant departments, campers can enjoy a safe and memorable winter camping experience.
