In Ajman, all 2,274 taxis in the city’s fleet have now become 100 percent environmentally friendly, completing over 8.5 million trips. The taxis consist of a variety of gas-powered, electric, and hybrid models, all aimed at reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions. This milestone aligns with Ajman’s commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation.

Omar Mohammed Lootah, the Director General of the transport authority in Ajman, highlighted that well-studied plans and continuous efforts led to achieving this goal ahead of schedule. The authority has provided support to taxi companies to encourage them to join this eco-friendly initiative. The introduction of hybrid vehicles in 2015 marked the beginning of the authority’s efforts to promote environmentally friendly technologies in the transport sector.

The introduction of electric vehicles in 2022 further strengthened the taxi fleet in Ajman, showcasing their commitment to embracing sustainable transportation options. The move towards electric and self-driving vehicles is seen as a significant step towards regional leadership in the transportation sector. Embracing such technologies positions Ajman as a model to be emulated at the regional level and highlights the city’s dedication to environmental sustainability.

Ajman’s focus on reducing carbon emissions mirrors the UAE’s broader commitment to sustainability. The country has been placing increasing emphasis on environmentally friendly vehicles as part of its national transport strategy. This approach reflects the UAE’s comprehensive vision of enhancing the quality of life while minimizing environmental impact, showcasing the wise leadership’s dedication to building a sustainable society for future generations. By prioritizing sustainability, Ajman and the UAE are setting a strong example for other regions to follow.

The transition to environmentally friendly taxis in Ajman demonstrates the city’s alignment with the UAE’s sustainability goals. As the country continues to prioritize cleaner transportation options, such as electric and hybrid vehicles, it sets a positive example for other areas within the region. With a focus on reducing carbon emissions and embracing technological advancements in transportation, Ajman is paving the way towards a greener and more sustainable future for the city and beyond. The success of the eco-friendly taxi initiative serves as a testament to Ajman’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
