The UAE women’s cricket team recently clinched a historic victory in a tri-series tournament against Zimbabwe and Namibia, despite their heartbreaking defeat in the semifinal of the Global Qualifiers for the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The UAE team had been just a step away from securing a spot at the T20 World Cup, but their collapse against Sri Lanka shattered their dreams. However, they managed to turn their disappointment into determination and went on to win the tri-series against higher-ranked opponents.

In the tournament held in Windhoek, the UAE team, led by captain Esha Oza, displayed exceptional performance, winning five out of six matches to clinch the title. Players like Theertha Satish, who scored 245 runs, and Esha Oza, who contributed with both bat and ball, were instrumental in the team’s success. Despite the pain of their defeat to Sri Lanka, the players found a new purpose in their journey towards cricketing excellence and are now focused on qualifying for the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Head coach Ahmed Raza, who had previously led the UAE men’s team to qualify for the 2022 T20 World Cup, has set ambitious goals for the women’s team. Raza aims to instill a fearless and aggressive style of play in the team to take on bigger opponents. The UAE team’s victory in the tri-series has boosted their confidence, and they are now eyeing a qualification for the 2026 T20 World Cup as their major goal. The players are determined to approach each match with strength and resilience, focusing on their immediate goal of qualifying for the Asia Cup before setting their sights on the World Cup.

The UAE’s triumph in the tri-series was a testament to their hard work and resilience, as they overcame setbacks and fought their way to victory against tough opponents. The team’s performance in the tournament showcased their character and determination in crunch moments, winning away from home in challenging conditions. The players exhibited a champion mindset, with the bowlers delivering exceptional performances during the powerplays and the batters putting pressure on their opponents with aggressive play. The team’s hunger for success and their united efforts were evident in their performance throughout the tournament.

The UAE women’s cricket team has come a long way since the inception of women’s cricket in the country 15 years ago. Despite facing challenges and setbacks, the team has shown significant progress and growth, culminating in their recent triumph in the tri-series. Their victory against higher-ranked teams like Zimbabwe and Namibia is a testament to their dedication, hard work, and passion for the sport. With a strong leadership under captain Esha Oza and coach Ahmed Raza, the UAE women’s team is poised to achieve greater success in the future and continue making strides in women’s cricket on the global stage.
