New Zealand is set to take on Afghanistan in a one-off Test match in Greater Noida, near New Delhi, with Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi facing challenges due to injuries within his team. Afghanistan’s chances of pulling off an upset victory have been hindered by the absence of key players Rashid Khan and Naveed Zadran. In response to the depleted attack, Afghanistan has included three uncapped players in their 16-member squad.

On the other hand, New Zealand is gearing up for a series of Tests in Asia, with the match against Afghanistan marking the beginning of a six-Test period over the next two months. The team will travel to Sri Lanka for two Tests in Galle and then return to India for a three-match series against the host team led by Rohit Sharma. Batsman Kane Williamson sees this as an opportunity for the team to adapt to playing in Asian conditions, as they do not play consistently in this format.

In an effort to improve their record on the continent, New Zealand has added former Sri Lanka spinner Rangana Herath and former India batting coach Vikram Rathour to their support staff. The team is looking to gain valuable insights into the local conditions and develop strategies to enhance their performance. The players are focused on reconnecting as a red-ball group and applying their skills and plans effectively in the upcoming matches.

With a history of 16 wins in 90 Test matches, New Zealand acknowledges that their results in Asia have not been exceptional. However, they are determined to make the most of this opportunity to play in the continent and work towards improving their performance. The team is focusing on adjusting their game and familiarizing themselves with the conditions, as they aim to apply their skills and plans as effectively as possible in the upcoming matches.

Despite the challenges faced by both teams, the match between New Zealand and Afghanistan is set to be an exciting encounter. While Afghanistan will have to deal with injuries to key players, New Zealand will be looking to adapt to playing in Asian conditions and make the most of their time in the continent. Both teams are focused on putting up a competitive performance and showcasing their skills in the one-off Test match in Greater Noida.
