The Sultanate of Oman recently reiterated its commitment to supporting Africa’s development agenda at the second regular session of the UNICEF Executive Board. In a joint statement delivered by Oman’s representative on the board, Shanoona bint Salem Al Habsi, the country praised UNICEF’s strategy to back “Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want” and its implementation plan for the second decade (2024-2033). Al Habsi also highlighted the importance of promoting “Africa’s Agenda for Children 2040” and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.

Al Habsi emphasized the significant role that partnerships play in creating sustainable change in the lives of African children. She called on the international community to take responsibility for supporting Africa and stressed the need for global cooperation in addressing the continent’s historical challenges. With Africa’s significant youth population, she noted that the continent is a natural partner for UNICEF and encouraged continued collaboration with African nations.

The Sultanate’s representative also commended African nations for their strides in improving healthcare, empowering women, and protecting children from violence. Despite this progress, she underscored the need for continued support for Africa’s children, stating that “We must not fail to realize their aspirations.” The focus on strengthening international partnerships to support Africa’s development agenda reflects Oman’s commitment to improving the lives of children on the continent.

This call to action from Oman comes at a crucial time, as Africa continues to face challenges in healthcare, gender equality, and child protection. By supporting UNICEF’s strategy and initiatives, the Sultanate of Oman is demonstrating its dedication to advancing sustainable change in Africa and creating a better future for children on the continent.

In conclusion, the Sultanate of Oman’s emphasis on the need for international partnerships to support Africa’s development agenda is a crucial step in advancing the well-being of children on the continent. By highlighting UNICEF’s strategic support for Africa’s development goals and calling for continued global cooperation, Oman is playing a pivotal role in creating sustainable change in the lives of African children. As Africa works towards realizing its aspirations for its youth population, Oman’s commitment to supporting these efforts is commendable and serves as a model for other countries to follow in advancing the well-being of children around the world.
