The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has hailed the Housing Program, a flagship initiative of Saudi Vision 2030, as a resounding success. In its latest report following the conclusion of the “2024 Article IV Consultations,” the IMF praised the program for effectively contributing to the social and economic stability of Saudi citizens. The report highlighted the rapid growth of the Kingdom’s economy and its strong financial position, noting that Saudi Arabia was the fastest-growing economy among the G20 nations in 2022. The IMF also commended the progress made in achieving the set targets for the Housing Program.

One of the key achievements of the Housing Program has been a significant increase in home ownership rates among Saudi citizens, reaching approximately 64 percent. The program has also garnered high satisfaction rates among beneficiaries, with over 90 percent expressing their contentment with the services provided. Furthermore, the program has successfully diversified the range of housing options available to citizens, catering to a wider spectrum of needs and preferences. These accomplishments underscore the effectiveness of the Housing Program in meeting the housing needs of Saudi Arabia’s population.

The Housing Program has implemented various innovative initiatives to address the housing needs of citizens, including the Sakani program under the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing. Additionally, the program has offered financing options through the Real Estate Development Fund, established regulations by the Real Estate General Authority, and executed projects and residential suburbs through the National Housing Company. These initiatives have not only provided housing solutions but have also contributed to attracting significant investments in the housing sector, further boosting the Kingdom’s economic growth.

The success of the Housing Program highlights the forward-thinking vision of the Saudi leadership, which has prioritized the provision of suitable housing for its citizens. By focusing on enhancing the availability and accessibility of housing options, the program has played a pivotal role in driving the growth of the non-oil GDP in Saudi Arabia. The comprehensive approach adopted by the program, which combines innovative solutions, regulatory frameworks, and strategic partnerships, has garnered praise from the IMF and positioned Saudi Arabia as a leader in addressing housing challenges.

In conclusion, the IMF’s endorsement of the Housing Program as a key driver of social and economic stability in Saudi Arabia underscores the program’s significant impact on the country’s development. By achieving notable milestones such as increased home ownership rates, high beneficiary satisfaction, and a diverse range of housing options, the Housing Program has demonstrated its effectiveness in meeting the evolving needs of Saudi citizens. Going forward, continued support and investment in the program will be crucial in sustaining the momentum of growth and prosperity in the Kingdom.
