Lulwa bint Saleh Al Awadhi, the Acting Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), recently led a consultative meeting with civil society organizations to discuss initiatives for women with disabilities in Bahrain. The meeting focused on enhancing services for women with disabilities and those caring for disabled individuals. Key proposals included streamlining the process for obtaining medical disability reports, expanding the number of authorized medical providers, and introducing a 50% reduction on government fees for women with disabilities. Al Awadhi emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts between the SCW and relevant organizations to ensure the successful implementation of these initiatives.

One of the main goals of the consultative meeting was to reach a consensus on implementation mechanisms for the 2024 initiatives concerning women with disabilities. The meeting highlighted the need for collaboration and cooperation between the SCW and other organizations to improve and sustain services for women with disabilities. By simplifying the process for obtaining medical disability reports, expanding the network of authorized medical providers, and reducing government fees for women with disabilities, the SCW aims to make it easier for women with disabilities to access the services they need.

The proposal to introduce a 50% reduction on government fees for women with disabilities is a significant step towards ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent women from accessing necessary services. By making services more affordable, the SCW hopes to improve the overall well-being and quality of life for women with disabilities in Bahrain. In addition to financial support, the SCW is also working to expand the network of authorized medical providers, making it easier for women with disabilities to receive the care they require.

The consultative meeting chaired by Lulwa bint Saleh Al Awadhi demonstrates the SCW’s commitment to advocating for the rights and well-being of women with disabilities in Bahrain. By working closely with civil society organizations and other stakeholders, the SCW is able to address the unique needs of women with disabilities and develop targeted initiatives to support them. The SCW’s efforts to enhance services for women with disabilities reflect a broader commitment to promoting equality and inclusion for all Bahraini women.

Overall, the consultative meeting focused on disability initiatives underscores the importance of collaboration and cooperation in addressing the needs of women with disabilities. By working together with civil society organizations and other stakeholders, the SCW is able to develop and implement initiatives that are tailored to the specific needs of women with disabilities in Bahrain. Through these efforts, the SCW aims to improve the overall well-being and quality of life for women with disabilities, ultimately promoting equality and inclusion for all women in Bahrain.
