Former US gymnast MyKayla Skinner may have regretted her comments about the US women’s gymnastics team if she had known the NSFW name they use to refer to themselves. After the team secured the gold medal in the Olympic team final in Paris, superstar Simone Biles posted a photo with the caption “Lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions,” which many interpreted as a response to Skinner’s remarks made after the US Olympic trials. Skinner had expressed her thoughts on the team’s talent and work ethic, leading to controversy.

In a since-deleted YouTube video, Skinner commented on the lack of talent and work ethic in the current team, attributing some of it to the restrictions placed on coaches by SafeSport. She later apologized for her statements, but Biles seemingly responded with a post celebrating her eighth Olympic medal, becoming the most decorated US gymnast in Olympic history. Biles’ husband also chimed in with a comment, referencing the team’s NSFW name that they had revealed after their victory.

Over the years, the US women’s gymnastics team has had various names at different Olympic games, including the “Magnificent Seven” (1996), “Fierce Five” (2012), “Final Five” (2016), and “Fighting Four” (2021). The current squad, led by Biles and including athletes like Sunisa Lee and McKayla Maroney, jokingly referred to themselves with a spicy name that reflects their confidence and success. Maroney clarified any confusion about her similar name, showing support for the team and their achievements.

Biles also mentioned an alternative team name, “Golden Girls,” in reference to being the oldest Olympic team. However, for Skinner, this year’s squad might always be remembered as Team FAAFO based on the NSFW name they have adopted. The camaraderie and support amongst the team members, despite any past controversies or disagreements, were evident in their social media interactions following their gold medal win in the Olympic team final.

The US women’s gymnastics team’s success and unity were highlighted in their victory in the Olympic team final, with Biles leading the way as the most decorated US gymnast in Olympic history. Despite any differences or misunderstandings in the past, the team members came together to celebrate their achievements and support each other. With their unique and spirited approach to competition, the team continues to inspire fans and fellow athletes alike with their talent, dedication, and resilience.
