The Formula One Belgian Grand Prix at the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit in Spa on July 28, 2024, was a thrilling event that saw Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton back as a dominant force in the sport. Despite George Russell being disqualified for a technical breach after winning, Hamilton’s victory confirmed that he is back and close to his best after a two and a half year hiatus. Hamilton stormed into the lead, controlled the race, and ultimately claimed his 105th career win, exactly 11 years after his first victory with Mercedes in 2013.

The incident surrounding Russell’s disqualification highlighted a rare error by Mercedes, but it also signaled that Russell will be a strong contender in the upcoming titles race that could potentially involve up to seven drivers. With Hamilton returning to form, the competition in the championship has become even more intense. Max Verstappen of Red Bull faced a race of damage limitation but was ultimately boosted by Russell’s disqualification, elevating him to fourth place and maintaining his lead in the championship.

As the teams prepare for a three-week break before the Dutch Grand Prix, Red Bull faces decisions regarding the future of Sergio Perez, who has struggled this season. With McLaren closing in on Red Bull in the constructors’ championship, the competition is heating up. Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso continues to impress at the age of 43, showcasing his raw enthusiasm, commitment, and competitive spirit. Despite not winning a race since 2013, Alonso has shown no signs of slowing down and continues to perform at a high level.

Overall, the Belgian Grand Prix provided fans with a tense, intriguing, and ultimately thrilling race. With Hamilton back on top, the championship race is heating up, and the upcoming races promise to be exciting. Red Bull faces challenges in maintaining its lead in the championship, while Mercedes and other teams are looking to close the gap. Alonso’s impressive performance at his age is a testament to his skill and dedication to the sport. As the season progresses, fans can expect more exciting races and fierce competition among the top drivers and teams.
