The tourism sector in the UAE is experiencing a significant boom, with the country’s GDP expected to receive a 12 per cent contribution from this industry by 2024. The staycation trend is becoming increasingly popular among locals and expatriates, who are opting for shorter breaks within the country instead of traditional long vacations. Popular destinations like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and Yas Islands are attracting visitors with a range of high-quality experiences and activities.

EaseMyTrip, a multinational online travel company, has seen a 20 per cent increase in bookings for local destinations in the UAE. Luxury beachside resorts in Dubai, hotels with access to amusement parks on Yas Island, and mountain retreats in Ras Al Khaimah are among the top choices for residents looking for a quick escape. These destinations not only provide an ideal getaway but also contribute to the growth of domestic tourism in the UAE.

Residents in the UAE are shifting towards shorter, more frequent getaways of 2-4 days instead of the traditional 7-10 day international trips. This change in travel behavior offers greater flexibility, convenience, and aligns with budget-conscious planning. On average, residents are spending around AED 350 per night on these local escapes, making them a cost-effective alternative to expensive international travel. EaseMyTrip has witnessed impressive growth in its UAE operations, with Dubai alone surpassing Rs1 billion in gross booking revenue in a quarter.

Event-driven tourism has played a crucial role in boosting bookings in the UAE, with significant spikes observed around major cultural and business events. Notable increases in bookings have been seen during events like Gitex Global and Indian couples opting for destination weddings in regions like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. EaseMyTrip is planning to enhance its operations in the UAE by establishing a service center in Egypt to provide assistance in Arabic. They are also leveraging AI and machine learning to offer personalized recommendations and streamline booking processes, ensuring exceptional value for their customers.
