QatarEnergy recently inaugurated four new conventional-size LNG vessels built in Korean shipyards as part of the company’s historic fleet expansion program. These vessels, named “Id’asah”, “Nuaijah”, “Umm Swayyah”, and “Lebrethah”, are part of a total of 128 vessels ordered from Korean and Chinese shipyards in the largest shipbuilding program in LNG shipping industry history. The naming ceremonies for the vessels took place at the Samsung Heavy Industries Shipyard and the Hanwha Ocean Shipyard in the city of Geoje, Korea.

During the naming ceremony at the Samsung Heavy Industries Shipyard, Minister of State for Energy Affairs HE Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi praised the growing partnership between QatarEnergy, Samsung Heavy Industries, and JP Morgan Asset Management’s Global Transportation Group. Minister Al-Kaabi emphasized the joint commitment to delivering cleaner energy to the world and thanked the shipowner and shipyard for their dedication and quality workmanship. The first vessel, “Id’asah”, was delivered by Samsung as a symbol of the strong partnership between the companies.

At the naming ceremony at the Hanwha Ocean Shipyard, the vessels “Nuaijah”, “Umm Swayyah”, and “Lebrethah” were introduced as the first three LNG vessels to be delivered by Hanwha Ocean. Minister Al-Kaabi highlighted the historic moment as these vessels prepare to provide cleaner and more economic sources of energy across the globe. The vessels are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies to achieve optimal fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. Minister Al-Kaabi thanked the Korean KGL Consortium members and Hanwha Ocean for their commitment and dedication to this program.

The ceremonies were attended by senior executives and representatives from the shipyards, shipowner companies, Korean government officials, and QatarEnergy LNG representatives. The events marked a significant milestone in QatarEnergy’s journey towards expanding its LNG fleet and delivering cleaner energy solutions to the global market. The partnership between QatarEnergy and Korean shipyards highlights a strategic collaboration between industry leaders to drive innovation and sustainability in the LNG shipping industry. With a focus on improving fuel efficiency and reducing emissions, these new LNG vessels represent a step towards a more sustainable future for the energy sector.
