Gulf Cup 27: Analyzing the Market Value of Competing Teams

As the Gulf Cup 27 football tournament approaches in Jeddah, the market values of the eight participating teams present a striking disparity in overall squad valuations. The total market value of the competing teams is approximately €128.77 million (around $139 million), according to data from Transfermarkt. Leading the pack is Saudi Arabia with a valuation of €40.68 million, followed closely by the United Arab Emirates at €29.05 million, Qatar at €20.25 million, and Iraq at €17.78 million.

Dominance of Saudi Arabia and Player Valuations

Saudi Arabia secures the highest market valuation, exceeding the UAE by over €11 million, contributing about 31.6% of the tournament’s total market value. Leading the Saudi squad is Feras Al-Buraikan, valued at €3.5 million, followed by Mohamed Abu Shamat, also at €1.8 million. The UAE’s squad features Nicolás Giménez at €4 million, alongside Guilherme Bala and Mamadou Koulibaly, who each hold a valuation of €2 million.

Qatar’s Star Player and Valuation Insights

Meanwhile, Qatar boasts the most valuable player in the tournament, Akram Afif, whose market value stands at €8 million, outpacing his teammate Al-Juwair. Additionally, Al-Moaz Ali is valued at €2.5 million, and Edmilson Junior at €1.8 million, bringing their combined worth to €12.3 million, which represents over 60% of Qatar’s total squad value.

Iraq’s Position and Differences with Other Teams

Iraq ranks fourth with a market value of €17.78 million, led by Ahmed Qasim at €3.5 million, followed by Mirkhass Doski at €1.7 million, and Ali Al-Hamadi at €1.5 million. The significant gap in valuation becomes apparent from the fifth position, where Oman is valued at €7.7 million, Bahrain at €6.08 million, Kuwait at €5.08 million, and Yemen at the bottom with €2.15 million.

Defending Champions Bahrain and Market Value Considerations

Bahrain, despite being the defending champion of Gulf Cup 26, ranks sixth in market value. This highlights that market value does not always correlate with on-field success. Bahrain’s total squad valuation stands in stark contrast to its prior championship title.

Influence of Missing Players on Team Valuations

The player valuations presented reflect only the squads participating in the current tournament. Notably, Saudi player Saud Abdulhamid, valued at €9 million, and teammate Salem Al-Dosari (€1.2 million), are absent from the tournament, as well as Musab Al-Juwair, who was excluded for disciplinary reasons. These omissions can significantly alter the competitive dynamics at play.

Complete Overview of Team Market Values

  • Saudi Arabia: €40.68 million (approximately $43.9 million).
  • United Arab Emirates: €29.05 million (approximately $31.4 million).
  • Qatar: €20.25 million (approximately $21.9 million).
  • Iraq: €17.78 million (approximately $19.2 million).
  • Oman: €7.7 million (approximately $8.3 million).
  • Bahrain: €6.08 million (approximately $6.6 million).
  • Kuwait: €5.08 million (approximately $5.5 million).
  • Yemen: €2.15 million (approximately $2.3 million).

The Future of the Gulf Cup Tournament

While these market values provide a snapshot of the teams ahead of the tournament, they do not serve as an absolute measure of potential success on the pitch. The Gulf Cup promises competitive matchups, and it remains to be seen how the teams will perform in light of their respective valuations. Fans and analysts will closely monitor the tournament for unexpected outcomes that challenge preconceived notions regarding squad value and performance.
