Riyad Mahrez Arrives in Doha for North Qatar Club Signing
Algerian star Riyad Mahrez arrived in the Qatari capital of Doha on Monday, signaling his potential signing with North Qatar Club. The player is set to undergo medical examinations before the official announcement of this exciting transfer.
The club shared footage of Mahrez’s arrival on its official X account, showcasing a warm welcome for the footballer. Local media sources indicate that Mahrez’s move aims to bolster the team as they prepare for domestic competitions and their participation in the prestigious AFC Champions League.
Mahrez’s Recent Career and Free Agency
Mahrez has been a free agent since July, when he and Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli mutually terminated his contract after three successful seasons. During his time at Al Ahli, Mahrez played a pivotal role, helping the team secure two prestigious AFC Champions League titles and a Saudi Super Cup. He scored 37 goals and provided 50 assists in 122 appearances during this period.
This summer, Mahrez attracted the interest of two Qatari clubs, as well as an offer from Turkish side Çorum FK. As a free agent, North Qatar Club is not required to pay any transfer fees, making this acquisition financially advantageous.
What Mahrez Brings to North Qatar Club
At 35 years old, Mahrez recently concluded his international career following the 2026 World Cup. However, he has not announced his retirement from club football. His extensive experience will be invaluable as North Qatar Club vies for success in both domestic leagues and the AFC Champions League.
At North Qatar Club, Mahrez will join fellow Algerian and teammate Baghdad Bounedjah, along with Moroccan player Younes Belhanda. This collaboration is expected to strengthen the team’s performance in the AFC Champions League, where they have already started their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Al Ittihad.
Mahrez’s Achievements and Future Prospects
Mahrez has built an impressive football career, having played for esteemed clubs such as Leicester City, Manchester City, and Al Ahli Saudi. His experience includes winning multiple domestic and international titles, notably leading the Algerian national team to victory in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Interestingly, Mahrez faced North Qatar Club in a friendly match in August 2023 while playing for Al Ahli, where he contributed to a decisive 5-0 victory for his team. This familiarity with the club and region could ease his transition.
Looking Ahead: What’s Next for Mahrez?
With Mahrez’s move to North Qatar Club now in the spotlight, fans and analysts alike are keenly observing the developments around this anticipated signing. Following his medical checks, an official announcement regarding his contract is expected shortly.
As Mahrez integrates into his new team, his performance will be closely watched, especially in the ongoing AFC Champions League campaign. The football community is eager to see how his skills will enhance North Qatar Club’s chances of securing further titles.
