EuroGameJam 2026 closing ceremony held at European University in Bahrain

The European University in Bahrain hosted the closing ceremony of EuroGameJam 2026, bringing together students, parents, industry representatives and government officials on a single platform. EuroGameJam 2026 concluded with the participation of Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma’a, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Higher Education Council, who attended the event to recognize winners and partners.

The event showcased student-led projects in game design, e-sports and interactive technologies and underscored collaboration between higher education and emerging digital sectors. Organizers said the initiative provided practical, competitive environments for youth to translate creative ideas into career-ready experiences.

EuroGameJam 2026: event highlights and outcomes

EuroGameJam 2026 ran as a multi-day competition that emphasized rapid prototyping, teamwork and technical skills in game development. Participants demonstrated games and e-sports concepts that combined storytelling, user experience and applied programming, while mentors from industry and academia provided feedback and guidance.

Judging panels evaluated entries on creativity, technical implementation and market potential, and the ceremony honored winning teams as well as partner institutions and sponsors. Furthermore, officials noted that several projects showed potential for further incubation or entry into regional creative industry initiatives.

Higher education integration and skills development

Officials stressed that the initiative exemplifies practical integration between universities and modern industry sectors. According to the Minister of Education, such programs create hands-on opportunities for students to apply classroom knowledge in competitive settings and to build skills aligned with labor market needs.

Professor Andrew Nix, President of the European University in Bahrain, said the event reflects curricular shifts that support digital competencies. He credited recent educational materials, including the ministry’s Gaming 100 textbook for secondary students, with helping to align school-level learning with university and industry expectations.

Academic programs aligned with game development and AI

As part of the university’s response to industry trends, leaders announced new tracks within the hosted Bachelor of Science in Computer Science program from the University of London. The tracks include game development, machine learning and artificial intelligence, and data science alongside web and mobile app development.

Dr. Reem Al Buainain, Vice President of the university, said these specializations were introduced to equip graduates with both theoretical grounding and applied skills. Therefore, students gain exposure to practical development tools, collaborative project workflows and emerging technologies relevant to the digital economy.

Implications for Bahrain’s digital economy and e-sports sector

Industry observers noted that events like EuroGameJam 2026 support broader national objectives to diversify the economy through knowledge-intensive sectors. The ministry and higher education council have signaled support for policies that convert youth talent into opportunities in the digital economy and creative industries.

Furthermore, e-sports and game development are increasingly recognized as growth areas that generate jobs across design, programming, marketing and event management. The university’s efforts to couple academic programs with hands-on competitions aim to strengthen the talent pipeline for local studios, startups and multinational firms operating in the region.

Partnerships, recognition and next steps

At the ceremony, the minister presented awards to winning teams and acknowledged supporting partners, underlining the initiative’s role in building a national ecosystem for gaming and e-sports. Officials emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration among government, academia and the private sector to sustain momentum.

Organizers indicated that selected projects may receive follow-up support for incubation, mentorship or further training, subject to partner agreements. Meanwhile, the university plans to continue hosting practical competitions and to expand industry engagement to facilitate internships and employment pathways for graduates.

Looking ahead: what to watch next

Stakeholders recommended monitoring the rollout of the new academic tracks and announcements about incubation support for promising game projects. Additionally, observers expect further public-private initiatives that map curriculum outcomes to employer needs in e-sports, artificial intelligence and digital creative industries.

Readers should watch for future EuroGameJam events and university-industry collaborations that aim to pilot new training models and accelerate entry points into the digital economy. In the short term, follow-up programs and potential pilot incubators are likely to shape how Bahrain nurtures homegrown talent in game development and related fields.
