Qatar Condemns Israeli Raid on UNRWA Training Center

On August 26, 2026, Qatar officially condemned the Israeli forces’ incursion into the Qalandiya Vocational Training Center, which is operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in occupied Jerusalem. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that this event represents a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and a direct challenge to international will.

The ministry’s statement emphasizes that the systematic targeting of UNRWA by Israeli authorities aims to ultimately dismantle the agency and deprive millions of Palestinians across Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon from essential services.

The Context of the Raid

On August 25, Israeli forces raided the Qalandiya Training Institute located in Kafr Aqab, north of Jerusalem, implementing measures to take control of the facility. They reportedly raised the Israeli flag above its buildings, which further escalated tensions in the region. In addition to the raid, the Israeli military closed the main entrance to the Qalandiya refugee camp, resulting in injuries to several Palestinians, including a child, who were shot by Israeli troops, while other journalists were affected by tear gas during the incursion.

This incident highlights ongoing conflicts and confrontations in the region, raising concerns among international observers regarding the impact of such actions on the already fragile humanitarian situation.

International Response and Implications

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called upon the international community to fulfill its responsibilities and take immediate action to protect UNRWA facilities. Officials urged a firm response against Israel’s illegal measures to prevent catastrophic repercussions on the Palestinian population. The continued targeting of UNRWA not only threatens the agency’s operations but also exacerbates the humanitarian crises facing many Palestinian refugees.

The ministry reiterated Qatar’s unwavering support for UNRWA, emphasizing its commitment to the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. This includes their right to establish an independent state based on the borders of 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Future Actions and Developments

The implications of the recent Israeli raid on the UNRWA facility will likely resonate in diplomatic circles, as Qatar calls for protection measures for Palestinian rights and UN institutions. Observers predict that the situation may prompt a renewed push for international intervention regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Moving forward, stakeholders are advised to monitor responses from both regional and global powers, particularly regarding humanitarian aid and support for UNRWA. The upcoming period will be crucial in determining potential changes in the operational
