The Riyadh Art Program has announced the participation of 30 artists from 23 countries in the sixth edition of the Tuwaiq International Sculpture Symposium, set to take place at the Roshan Front from January 15 to February 8, 2025. The theme for this year’s symposium is “From Time to Time: The Joy of the Journey in its Difficulties,” with the aim of fostering artistic and cultural exchange through community partnerships. The event also seeks to integrate artistic practices into the urban cultural fabric, creating a unique space for artists from around the world to come together and share their perspectives.

Renowned artist and architect Sebastian Betancur Montoya, known for his significant works in Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East, will be participating in this year’s symposium. Joining him is curator Dr. Manal Al-Harbi, a Saudi sculptor and academic with over three decades of experience in the arts and academia. Montoya emphasized the focus of the symposium on the artist’s journey and resilience, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by artists as a major source of inspiration that enables them to create a legacy connecting the past, present, and future in innovative and humane ways.

The theme of the event, “From Time to Time: The Joy of the Journey in its Difficulties,” reflects the perseverance and steadfastness of artists as they navigate challenges to create works that capture the joy and meaning of their journeys. In addition to the sculptures created by the participating artists, the symposium will also feature interactive workshops, school visits, discussion panels, and other events designed to engage the community and provide insights into the creative process behind the artworks.

The Tuwaiq International Sculpture Symposium is an opportunity for artists to come together, learn from each other, and create meaningful connections through their shared passion for art. By showcasing the works of artists from diverse cultural backgrounds, the symposium provides a platform for dialogue and exchange that transcends borders and boundaries. The event’s emphasis on resilience and the artist’s journey speaks to the challenges faced by creative individuals in a rapidly changing world, highlighting the importance of art as a form of expression and connection.

Through the collaboration of artists, curators, and the community, the symposium aims to create a lasting impact on the cultural landscape of Riyadh and beyond. By promoting dialogue and engagement with the arts, the event contributes to the enrichment of urban life and the integration of artistic practices into the fabric of society. The interactive workshops and events planned for the symposium offer a unique opportunity for the public to engage with art in a meaningful way and gain insights into the creative process behind the sculptures on display.

Overall, the sixth edition of the Tuwaiq International Sculpture Symposium promises to be a celebration of art, culture, and community, bringing together artists from around the world to share their experiences and create lasting connections. Through the theme of “From Time to Time: The Joy of the Journey in its Difficulties,” the symposium highlights the resilience and creativity of artists in the face of challenges, inspiring others to embrace their own journeys with courage and passion. With a focus on community engagement and cultural exchange, the event sets the stage for a vibrant and diverse artistic dialogue that will leave a lasting impact on all who participate.
