Winter camps and cabins in Al Rustaq, located in South Al Batinah, are becoming increasingly popular among citizens and residents in Oman. The Municipality Department has registered a total of 220 camps in different wilayats, with Barka having the most at 150 camps, followed by Nakhal with 54 camps, Mussanah with 10 camps, and Al Rustaq with 6 camps. These camps were established in October 2024 and will be operational until the end of March of the current year.

Hilal Ahmed Al Felaiti, the Director of the Municipality in Barka, believes that the winter camps play a crucial role in promoting tourism and encouraging investment within the region. These camps provide an opportunity for individuals to explore the diverse landscapes of the governorate while also contributing to the local economy. To own a camp, applicants must be Omani citizens who agree to abide by the regulations outlined in the permit, including maintaining cleanliness and proper waste disposal.

Yousra bint Yasser Al Mamari, a camp owner, shares her enthusiasm about the positive impact of winter camps on the economy, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and individuals with limited income. These camps not only attract tourists to Oman but also serve as an additional source of income for families and business owners. With the growing popularity of winter camps in Al Rustaq and surrounding areas, it is evident that they are becoming an important aspect of the tourism industry within the region.

The winter camps in Al Rustaq offer a unique and authentic experience for visitors, allowing them to immerse themselves in nature and enjoy the beauty of their surroundings. From traditional activities such as barbecues and campfires to modern amenities like Wi-Fi and electricity, these camps cater to a wide range of preferences and ensure a comfortable stay for guests. The peaceful and serene environment of the camps provides a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

In addition to providing an enriching experience for tourists, winter camps also contribute to the preservation of local culture and heritage. By showcasing traditional Omani hospitality and customs, these camps help to educate visitors about the rich history of the region and promote cultural exchange. The integration of local cuisine, music, and art into the camp experience further emphasizes the importance of preserving and celebrating Oman’s cultural heritage.

Overall, the growing popularity of winter camps in Al Rustaq is a testament to the region’s potential for tourism development and economic growth. As more individuals and families choose to spend their holidays in these camps, the local economy will continue to benefit from increased tourism revenue and investment opportunities. With proper regulation and support from the government, winter camps in Al Rustaq and surrounding areas have the potential to become a thriving hub for tourism in Oman.
