UTAS Al-Mussanah to Host Symposium on Boosting Local Value to Back Innovative and Entrepreneurial Ventures.

The University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Al-Mussanah recently hosted a symposium titled “Enhancing In-Country Value to Support Innovative and Entrepreneurial Projects—A Strategic Partnership Towards Achieving Oman Vision 2040” with sponsorship from the Development Bank. The symposium brought together key stakeholders such as the General Secretariat of the Tender Board, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the National Employment Program, and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority to discuss ways to support and promote entrepreneurship in Oman.

The event began with a speech from Mr. Masoud Sulaiman Al Salmani, Head of Partnership and Entrepreneurship Section at the University, highlighting the university’s initiatives to support scientific research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The university has launched various programs, competitions, and training sessions to enhance students’ creative skills. Additionally, business incubators and advisory programs have been established to support student projects and engage them in local and regional competitions. The university has also prioritized strategic partnerships with the private sector to boost technology transfer and foster innovative commercial projects.

During the symposium, various programs and investment opportunities were presented to the attendees. The General Secretariat of the Tender Board showcased national policies for local content through a video presentation, while the National Employment Program presented employment pathways for entrepreneurs. The SME Development Authority discussed their support programs for entrepreneurs, and the Development Bank introduced financial support options available for aspiring entrepreneurs. The Ministry of Energy and Minerals also highlighted investment opportunities through the Makeen platform.

The presentations concluded with a showcase of successful investments, featuring the Four Dimensions (Al Noor Farm) as a prime example of a successful business model. The symposium ended with a discussion led by Dr. Ali Al-Ghoneimi, covering various topics related to the roles of the participating entities in supporting entrepreneurship in Oman. The event also included an awards ceremony where participants, contributors, and sponsors were honored, and the Development Bank presented incentive awards to students who showed promising entrepreneurial potential.

Overall, the symposium at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Al-Mussanah was a significant event focused on promoting and supporting entrepreneurship in Oman. With the collaboration of key stakeholders and the presentation of various programs and investment opportunities, the event aimed to encourage and empower aspiring entrepreneurs to pursue innovative and entrepreneurial projects. By fostering strategic partnerships with the private sector and providing support through financial options and advisory programs, the university is playing a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of entrepreneurs in Oman.
