With temperatures in the UAE reaching over 50°C and the scorching summer temperatures making it difficult for worshippers to attend Friday prayers, authorities in the UAE have issued a directive for imams to cap their sermons at 10 minutes. The directive will be applicable from June 28 until October to protect worshippers from the extreme heat during their congregational prayers.

During Friday prayers, many worshippers have to perform the ritual in the hot sun as mosques quickly fill up. The decision to cap sermons at 10 minutes will ensure that worshippers are not exposed to the harsh weather conditions for an extended period of time. This move comes as a measure to safeguard the health and well-being of the community members attending the Friday prayers.

Typically, sermons during Friday prayers can last between 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the preacher, followed by a congregational prayer consisting of two units. The decision to limit the duration of sermons to 10 minutes is aimed at maintaining the religious practices while also prioritizing the health and safety of worshippers attending the prayers.

The General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments has reiterated that the 10-minute cap on sermons is in line with Islamic practices and traditions, emphasizing the importance of protecting community health during the summer months. The directive is a proactive measure to ensure that worshippers can still fulfill their religious obligations while also staying safe from the extreme heat.

In order to stay updated with the latest news and announcements regarding the Friday prayers and other religious activities, followers can subscribe to KT’s WhatsApp Channels. This will enable worshippers to receive timely information and updates on any changes or guidelines issued by the authorities regarding the duration of sermons and congregational prayers during the summer months.

As the temperatures continue to rise in the UAE, the decision to limit the duration of Friday sermons to 10 minutes reflects the authorities’ commitment to ensuring the well-being of the community members. By adhering to the directive and adjusting the Friday prayer schedule, worshippers can continue to practice their faith while also staying safe and protected from the extreme summer temperatures.
