Baker McKenzie, a global legal firm, has recently introduced a new maternity and paternity leave policy for its employees. The policy offers extended leave to both mothers and fathers, with mothers being eligible for up to 52 weeks of leave, 26 weeks of which are fully paid, and fathers being offered up to six weeks of fully paid paternity leave. This policy is aimed at supporting new parents during a significant life event and promoting gender diversity within the workplace. The firm’s managing partner in the UAE, Borys Dackiw, stated that the extended parent leave policy reflects their commitment to prioritizing employee well-being and creating an inclusive and diverse work environment.

In the UAE, there is a growing trend among companies to offer more flexible work arrangements, including longer maternity and paternity leave, in order to attract and retain top talent. For example, Alpha Nero, a retail and design firm, recently implemented a 70-day paid maternity leave policy for its employees. Galadari, a Dubai-based company, provides three months of maternity leave after one year of employment, with the option of remote work for 28 calendar days upon resuming work. Additionally, female employees can work half their daily hours for the first 24 working days if remote work is not feasible. The mandatory maternity leave in the UAE is 45 calendar days, with federal government employees receiving 60 days off and breastfeeding breaks for two years.

The new policies implemented by Baker McKenzie and other firms in the UAE signal a shift towards prioritizing employee well-being and creating a more inclusive work environment. By offering extended maternity and paternity leave, companies are recognizing the importance of supporting new parents during a significant life event and promoting diversity within the workplace. This approach is in line with the broader commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse work culture, as stated by Keri Watkins, co-chair of the Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Committee at Baker McKenzie in the UAE.

The new maternity and paternity leave policy introduced by Baker McKenzie is part of a broader initiative to prioritize employee well-being and create a more inclusive work environment. The company’s commitment to supporting new parents during a significant life event reflects a growing trend among UAE companies to offer more flexible work arrangements and longer leave benefits. By increasing maternity and paternity leave, companies aim to attract and retain top talent, promote gender diversity, and create an environment where employees can thrive both personally and professionally.

In conclusion, the new maternity and paternity leave policy introduced by Baker McKenzie reflects a growing trend among UAE companies to prioritize employee well-being, promote gender diversity, and create a more inclusive work environment. By offering extended leave benefits to new parents, companies are recognizing the importance of supporting employees during significant life events and fostering a culture of inclusivity and diversity. This progressive approach to parent leave aligns with the broader commitment to creating a workplace where all employees can thrive both personally and professionally.
