With temperatures reaching a high of 47°C in the UAE, authorities have implemented various initiatives to protect workers from the scorching sun. The government has put several measures in place to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals working outdoors in these extreme conditions. From offering free ice cream to banning outside work in peak hours, here are some initiatives that have been introduced to combat the heat during the summer months.

One of the key initiatives is the midday break, which is enforced by the UAE government from June 15 to September 15. This regulation prohibits working under direct sunlight and in open-air areas between 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm. By implementing this midday break, workers are protected from the intense heat during the hottest part of the day, reducing the risk of heat-related illnesses and injuries.

Another important initiative is the establishment of rest stations for delivery workers. With over 6,000 rest stations set up across the UAE, delivery riders have access to shaded areas equipped with cooling devices and cold water. These stations provide workers with a place to rest and cool down during the midday break, ensuring their safety and well-being while working in the heat.

In addition to rest stations, workers in Abu Dhabi were recently treated to free ice creams, juices, and fruits as part of the ‘Our Refreshing Summer’ initiative. This initiative was organized by the Abu Dhabi City Municipality to provide relief from the hot weather and promote compassion within the community. By distributing refreshing treats to workers, the initiative aims to show appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

The ‘Al Freej Fridge’ campaign is another initiative that aims to support workers during the summer months. This campaign involves distributing cold water, juices, and ice cream to workers on the streets and roads of Dubai. By providing these refreshing treats, the campaign seeks to mitigate the effects of summer heat on workers and promote the values of compassion and giving within the community.

Overall, these initiatives play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of workers in the UAE during the hot summer months. By providing support such as free ice cream, rest stations, and a midday break, authorities are taking proactive steps to protect individuals working in extreme heat conditions. Through these initiatives, the UAE government is demonstrating its commitment to the welfare of workers and promoting a culture of compassion and support within the community.
