During the summer months, the risk of vehicles catching fire increases due to soaring temperatures, prompting motorists to consider adding fire protection to their car insurance. While all car owners are required to insure their vehicles, the most common and affordable option is third-party liability (TPL) coverage. However, TPL only covers damages to the third party’s vehicle and medical expenses in case of injuries, leaving out coverage for natural disasters or non-traffic related events like fire.

For comprehensive coverage that includes protection against theft, complete loss of the vehicle, fire, natural disasters and vandalism, car owners can opt for a comprehensive car insurance plan. This type of insurance policy provides full coverage to both the insured and third parties in case of an accident, offering peace of mind in various scenarios. Although upgrading from TPL to comprehensive insurance may incur additional costs, it is worth considering if one seeks to protect their vehicle comprehensively.

As the temperature rises in the summer, Dubai Police have warned motorists of the increased risk of vehicle fires due to factors such as high temperatures causing everyday items like perfumes and mobile phone chargers to ignite fires. To prevent fire accidents, motorists should check for damaged or loose wiring, monitor fuel and oil levels, engine temperature, and any unusual smells or smoke. Regular car maintenance, such as checking for blown fuses, loud noises, spilled oil, or worn-out hoses, is crucial in preventing vehicle fires.

Vehicle fires are a significant concern in the UAE, especially during the hot summer months. Research shows that most vehicle fires are caused by bad maintenance, mechanical or electrical failures. Collisions or overturns contribute to a small percentage of fires but result in a higher number of associated deaths. Moreover, a significant portion of non-fatal vehicle fire injuries occurs when civilians attempt to fight the fire themselves, emphasizing the importance of proper vehicle maintenance and fire prevention.

Following recent heavy rains and flooding in the UAE, insurance companies have increased premiums by up to 30% since May 1. The floods highlighted the importance of having comprehensive insurance coverage, as cars with only TPL were not covered for damages caused by the natural disaster. This led to a surge in demand for comprehensive insurance, as more car owners realized the necessity of a wider-ranging premium to cover various damages, including those related to vehicle fires. Comprehensive insurance not only protects against flooding but also shields motorists from fire-related incidents.

In conclusion, as the risk of vehicle fires increases during the summer months, it is essential for motorists to prioritize fire protection in their car insurance. Opting for comprehensive insurance coverage can provide peace of mind and safeguard vehicles against various risks, including theft, fire, natural disasters, and vandalism. Regular vehicle maintenance and awareness of fire prevention measures are crucial in reducing the likelihood of vehicle fires. By learning from past experiences, such as the recent floods, motorists can make informed decisions to ensure they are adequately covered in case of unforeseen events like fires.
