The Shura Council recently held its regular weekly session, during which they lauded HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s European tour to Italy and Germany. The council highlighted the importance of these visits in enhancing bilateral relations, promoting stability, and fostering cooperation in various fields.

During the session, the Shura Council approved draft constitutional amendments after thorough discussions and a review of a special committee’s report. The amendments aim to strengthen national unity, uphold justice and the rule of law, and prioritize the country’s interests. Speaker HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim expressed his gratitude to HH the Amir for his insightful directives and vision outlined in his historic speech.

The approved constitutional amendments include changes to several articles of the constitution, such as Article (1), (7), (13), (74), (77), (80), (81), (83), (86), (103), (104), (114), (117), and (150). These amendments focus on reinforcing the country’s democratic political system, strengthening the Shura Council, and clarifying the powers and responsibilities of government officials.

The proposed amendments also include the addition of Article (75 bis) and Article (125/final paragraph), as well as the repeal of Articles (78), (79), and (82). These changes aim to streamline the legislative framework, enhance government efficiency, and improve the functioning of key institutions in Qatar.

Additionally, the Shura Council discussed bills related to persons with disabilities and combating trafficking in persons. These bills were referred to relevant committees for further review and analysis before being submitted to the council for approval. The council also reviewed reports on the state budget for fiscal year 2025 and upcoming meetings of the GCC countries’ councils.

Overall, the Shura Council’s recent session underscored the importance of continuous improvement and development within Qatar’s legislative framework. The approved constitutional amendments reflect a commitment to promoting national unity, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring the country’s prosperity and stability for current and future generations. The ongoing dialogue and cooperation between the legislative and executive branches aim to achieve the vision of HH the Amir and further enhance Qatar’s position on the global stage.
