The Minister of Interior, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, emphasized the importance of security preparedness and the use of modern technology in the fight against drug abuse on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. In a meeting with the General Directorate of Crime Investigation and Forensic Evidence, the Minister expressed his gratitude for their efforts in improving performance and fulfilling their security responsibilities. He also praised the collaborative efforts of individuals and entities in the national fight against drugs, emphasizing that it is a collective societal responsibility.

The Minister highlighted the progress made in combating drug abuse, noting the seizure of 2,285 drug-related cases between the beginning of 2023 and mid-2024. He emphasized the need to maintain security readiness, utilize modern technologies like artificial intelligence, and build strong community partnerships. The Minister also praised the positive outcomes of programs like “Ta’afi” and “Together,” which address violence and addiction through community outreach efforts. Innovative approaches, modern tools, and effective methods are necessary to deliver awareness messages and provide early intervention within a comprehensive security awareness framework.

In addition, the Minister emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to combat drug abuse in schools, youth centers, sports clubs, and cyberspace. He stressed the need for knowledge, conviction, and parental and national responsibility to create a safe environment for a dignified life. The Director General of Criminal Investigations and Forensic Evidence expressed gratitude to the Minister for his support of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate, enabling it to fulfill its role in protecting society and safeguarding youth from the dangers of drug abuse. The growing community awareness of the dangers of drugs was attributed to the Minister’s directives to strengthen community partnerships in the fight against drug abuse.

The Minister concluded the meeting by honoring several members of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate for their dedication and efforts, wishing them continued success in serving their nation. The recognition of the importance of security preparedness, modern technology, and community partnerships in combating drug abuse underscores the government’s commitment to addressing this issue. By emphasizing the need for innovative approaches and early intervention, as well as the collective responsibility of society, the Minister and his team are working towards creating a safer and drug-free environment for all members of society. Through continued collaboration and dedication, progress can be made in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
