The Public Prosecution in Saudi Arabia has issued a warning that individuals and companies that tamper with the marine environment and water bodies will face severe penalties under the new Environment Law. This law includes provisions aimed at protecting marine areas, water bodies, oceans, seas, and geographical components through which water moves. The maximum penalties for violators include a jail term of up to 10 years and fines of up to SR30 million. The Kingdom is committed to protecting the marine environment from any transgressions or violations, reflecting a global responsibility that requires the efforts of all segments of society.

Environmental crimes that harm water bodies, such as pollution from chemicals or waste, may result in financial fines ranging from SR1 million to SR30 million, depending on the severity of the crime and its impact on the marine environment. The penalties will apply to both individuals and companies, emphasizing the shared responsibility of all in protecting the environment. This move is seen as a significant milestone in Saudi Arabia’s efforts to enhance environmental awareness. According to Walid Alnajem, founder of the Weather and Climate Society and the Environment and Combating Desertification Association, protecting the marine environment is crucial and requires effective strategies to preserve it. The strict penalties under the new law will help ensure that past violations are not repeated.

The implementation of these measures comes at a time when concerns about environmental degradation and climate change are on the rise, impacting marine life. The penalties outlined in the new Environment Law are a step towards protecting natural resources and ensuring their sustainability for future generations. Salman Al-Ramali, a lawyer, notes that the new law serves as a strong deterrent to anyone who dares to harm the marine environment. The severity of the penalties reflects the Kingdom’s seriousness in addressing environmental challenges and raising awareness among citizens about the importance of preserving the environment and adhering to environmental laws.

The regulations set forth in the new Environment Law are designed to safeguard marine areas and water bodies, as well as preserve oceans, seas, and other geographical components integral to the movement of water. This demonstrates Saudi Arabia’s commitment to environmental protection and emphasizes the need for strict enforcement of environmental laws. By imposing significant penalties on those who commit environmental crimes, the Kingdom is sending a clear message about the importance of respecting and preserving the marine environment. The existence of a comprehensive legal system will help educate the public about the significance of environmental conservation and encourage compliance with environmental regulations among all members of society.

In conclusion, the introduction of the new Environment Law in Saudi Arabia represents a significant step towards enhancing environmental awareness and protecting the marine environment from harm. The severe penalties for environmental crimes underscore the Kingdom’s commitment to environmental preservation and sustainability. By imposing fines and jail terms on violators, Saudi Arabia aims to deter individuals and companies from engaging in activities that could harm water bodies and marine life. The new law serves as a crucial tool in raising public awareness about the importance of environmental protection and ensuring that everyone plays a role in safeguarding the environment for future generations.
