The recent Marrakech Economic Parliamentary Forum brought to light Qatar’s commitment to supporting startups and fostering entrepreneurship. During the event, HE Abdullah bin Nasser bin Turki Al Subaie, a member of the Shura Council and Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, highlighted Qatar’s efforts in providing promising investment opportunities. He mentioned the significant progress made by Qatar in supporting projects and startups, facilitated by the development of laws and streamlined procedures. Al Subaie also praised the Qatar Development Bank for financing projects, providing initial studies, and promoting women’s participation in economic activities.

In addition to supporting startups, Qatar has also encouraged the entry of specialized foreign investment companies into its market. The recent reduction of service fees by over 90% in trade, industry, and business development sectors aims to attract capital investment in various economic fields. Al Subaie also emphasized Qatar’s efforts in enhancing cooperation with international organizations on environmental and climate change issues, highlighting the importance of ratifying agreements to address these challenges. Moreover, he discussed the obstacles to regional integration and the need for economic reform to align with the evolving economy.

Addressing the urgent need for structural economic reform, Al Subaie stressed the responsibility of parliaments in confronting challenges, finding solutions, and providing resources for implementation. He emphasized the importance of cooperation and coordination between parliaments, legislative institutions, the private sector, women, and youth empowerment to promote sustainable development and govern modern technologies like artificial intelligence. The forum was identified as a vital platform for parliamentary work in transitioning to green energy, supporting investments, and small projects.

During his speech at the forum, Al Subaie touched upon the tragic events in Gaza due to the ongoing conflict, reaffirming Qatar’s unwavering support for the rights of the Palestinian people to live with dignity and establish an independent state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. The Marrakech Economic Parliamentary Forum, spanning two days, focused on securing energy supplies, transitioning to green energy, supporting entrepreneurship, and addressing challenges to achieve clean and sustainable energy. The event brought together political and economic officials, experts, academics, and representatives of civil society to discuss regional solutions for entrepreneurship, economic growth, and connectivity across the Euro-Mediterranean and Arabian Gulf regions.
