On Sunday, the Shura Council participated in the 19th meeting of the Parliamentary Coordination and Foreign Relations Committee of the Legislative Councils of the GCC Countries in preparation for the 18th regular meeting of Their Excellencies Speakers of the Shura, Representatives, National and Ummah Councils in the GCC countries. The meeting was held in Abu Dhabi and attended by members of the Shura Council, including HE Nasser bin Mohammed Al Nuaimi and HE Abdullah bin Nasser bin Turki Al Subaie, along with Secretary-General HE Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud. The discussions focused on topics related to joint Gulf cooperation, cultural diversity, and the challenges of change, as well as the outcomes of meetings with the parliaments of Latin American countries.

The attendees praised the efforts of the State of Qatar during its presidency of the 17th regular meeting and expressed their gratitude for the contributions of the Shura Council in strengthening Gulf parliamentary work and promoting cooperation between the GCC countries. The panel discussed the role of Gulf legislative councils in preserving the Gulf identity, based on the recommendations of a panel discussion held in Doha in May. Other topics included the results of cooperation with the parliaments of Latin American countries and the outcomes of the Gulf-European Parliamentary Committee meetings.

One of the key topics discussed at the meeting was the recommendations of the previous meeting of the presidents regarding holding coordination meetings in international parliamentary forums. The attendees also focused on increasing the momentum of Gulf parliamentary meetings at various levels to enhance cooperation and collaboration among the GCC countries. The agenda of the 18th regular meeting of Their Excellencies Speakers of the Shura, Representatives, National and Ummah Councils in the GCC countries was approved during the meeting.

Overall, the meeting in Abu Dhabi was an important step towards strengthening Gulf parliamentary work and promoting joint cooperation among the GCC countries. The attendees emphasized the significance of preserving the Gulf identity and cultural diversity, as well as the role of legislative councils in addressing the challenges of change. The outcomes of the meeting will contribute to enhancing cooperation with international partners and advancing mutual interests in various areas of common concern. The Shura Council’s participation in such meetings reflects its commitment to promoting dialogue, cooperation, and coordination among the GCC countries for the benefit of their citizens and the region as a whole.
