Saudi Arabia is currently experiencing an exceptional summer season with heavy rainfall, hail showers, and active winds in several regions. Jazan recorded the highest amount of rainfall in a single day in the past 12 years, reaching 184 mm, surpassing the previous record set in Jeddah in 2022. As a result of the heavy rains, in-person classes in schools were suspended and students were shifted to remote learning platforms. The Jazan Region Mayoralty and its affiliated municipalities have intensified their efforts to deal with the effects of the heavy rain by implementing an emergency plan with the participation of numerous emergency rooms, human cadres, equipment, drainage tanks, pumps, and various tools.

Hussein Al-Qahtani, spokesman for the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), highlighted the significance of the high amount of rainfall in Jazan in shedding light on the climatic conditions in the Kingdom. Various regions in Saudi Arabia have also witnessed varying amounts of rainfall, with Ghamika in Al-Laith governorate recording the highest rate of rainfall at 23 mm. The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture report indicated rainfall in different regions of the Kingdom, including Riyadh, Makkah, Madinah, Asir, Jazan, Najran, and Al-Baha. The heavy rains coincided with the appearance of the Suhail star in the Arabian Peninsula, signaling the beginning of the countdown to summer.

The Civil Defense Directorate has advised everyone to take precautions during rainfall by staying in safe places, avoiding risky activities near flowing water bodies, following main paths and roads, and adhering to instructions and guidelines. Meanwhile, residents and visitors in the highlands of Saudi Arabia are enjoying the green vegetation caused by the continuous rainfall in the summer season. Nature lovers in regions like Jazan, Al-Baha, and Asir are delighted by the natural beauty, including spread of flowers, green spaces, and grassy areas in the mountainous regions and valleys. The moderate weather and lush vegetation have attracted people to explore the valleys and parks in these highlands.

The heavy seasonal rains in Al-Baha region have significantly increased the vegetation cover and green nature across its plains and mountains, making it one of the regions in the Kingdom with abundant areas of vegetation cover. The region is home to juniper trees, acacia, olives, basil, mint, and other aromatic and herbaceous plants that flourish during the rainy season. The beauty of the green landscapes and the pleasant weather have made Al-Baha a popular destination for residents and visitors seeking to immerse themselves in nature’s tranquility and beauty during the summer months.

In conclusion, the exceptional summer season in Saudi Arabia is marked by heavy rainfall across various regions, leading to record-breaking amounts in cities like Jazan. The authorities are actively responding to the effects of the rains by implementing emergency plans and mobilizing resources to ensure the safety of residents. The lush vegetation cover and green landscapes resulting from the rains have attracted nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts to explore the highlands and valleys, enjoying the beauty of the natural surroundings. As the rainy season continues, residents are urged to take precautions and follow safety guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure a safe and enjoyable summer experience.
