Dr. Batoul Baz, Vice President of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), represented the Kingdom and highlighted Saudi Arabia’s dedication to reducing biodiversity loss in line with international agreements and protocols. She stressed the importance of the international community committing to biodiversity conservation and equitable benefit-sharing. Dr. Baz also discussed Saudi Arabia’s national initiatives, such as the Saudi Green Initiative and the development of a national system for genetic resources, to preserve biodiversity and combat climate change.

One key focus of the meeting was the development of a mechanism for Parties to share benefits from digital sequence information on genetic resources. This includes discussions on establishing a global fund to support these efforts.
