The Saudi Ministry of Defense has signed an executive agreement with the Spanish Ministry of Defense to support the construction of three new multi-mission combat ships. These ships are capable of dealing with all air, surface, and subsurface threats. The agreement was signed by the Chief of Staff of the Saudi Naval Forces and the Chief of Staff of the Spanish Navy in Madrid. This agreement is part of the “Sarawat Project” expansion contract, which aims to enhance cooperation in training, expertise exchange, and technical and logistical support for the Royal Saudi Naval Forces.

The goal of the agreement is to expand joint cooperation between the two defense ministries for the benefit of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces. The three additional combat ships of the “Corvette Avante 2200” type will help raise the readiness of the naval forces to defend Saudi Arabia, protect its vital interests, enhance maritime security in the region, and achieve the goals of the National Defense Strategy in line with “Vision 2030.” The Spanish Navy will provide technical support during the ship construction stages, implement inspection and testing work, evaluate systems, and assist with academic and practical training for the crews of the “Avante 2200” ships.

These new combat ships are similar in technical and combat specifications to the five ships delivered in the first phase of the “Sarawat Project.” They are equipped with the latest combat and engineering systems to deal effectively with air, surface, and subsurface threats. The agreement also includes operational and tactical training for the crews of the new ships during sailing after delivery to the Royal Saudi Naval Forces.

The construction and supply of the three additional combat ships will help enhance the capabilities of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces to defend the country and protect its strategic interests. This agreement marks a significant step in enhancing the defense capabilities of Saudi Arabia and strengthening maritime security in the region. The cooperation between the Saudi Ministry of Defense and the Spanish Ministry of Defense will contribute to the successful implementation of the “Sarawat Project” and the advancement of naval capabilities in the region.

In conclusion, the executive agreement signed between the Saudi Ministry of Defense and the Spanish Ministry of Defense signifies a new phase in the cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense. The construction of three new combat ships will enhance the capabilities of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces to deal with various threats and contribute to the defense and security of Saudi Arabia. This agreement is in line with the goals of the National Defense Strategy and “Vision 2030” to strengthen the defense capabilities of the country and enhance maritime security in the region. The joint efforts of the two defense ministries will further strengthen the strategic partnership between Saudi Arabia and Spain in the defense sector.
