The Children’s Public Library in Muscat, Oman has entered into a significant international cooperation agreement with the Russian State Children’s Library. The two organizations signed a Letter of Cooperation to collaborate on holding joint exhibitions, conferences, and events, as well as exchanging expertise among staff and working together on children’s research. This marks the first international cooperation agreement for the Children’s Public Library and is a step towards enhancing international cooperation and exploring collaborations in areas of mutual interest.

The signing of the Letter of Cooperation took place in Muscat and was attended by prominent officials from both Oman and Russia. Her Highness Dr. Mona bint Fahad Al Said, Assistant Vice-Chancellor for International Cooperation at Sultan Qaboos University and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Public Children’s Library, signed the agreement on behalf of the Sultanate of Oman. The event was also attended by Jamal bin Hassan Al-Moosawi, Secretary General of the National Museum, Hamood Salim Al-Towaiya, the Accredited Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Russian Federation, and Ambassador Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Riyami, Head of the Cultural Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From the Russian side, Ms. Maria Vedenyapina, Director of the Russian State Children’s Library, signed the agreement.

The collaboration between the Children’s Public Library in Oman and the Russian State Children’s Library will encompass various activities aimed at promoting reading and learning among children. These activities include organizing joint exhibitions, conferences, and events, as well as raising awareness about the importance of reading for children. The agreement also involves exchanging expertise among staff members, collaborating on children’s research, and providing training to library employees on the latest technologies used in libraries. This partnership will enable both libraries to benefit from each other’s experience and resources, ultimately enriching the services they offer to their respective communities.

The Russian State Children’s Library, established in 1969 in Moscow, is one of the largest children’s libraries in the Russian Federation. With a vast collection of books, magazines, and multimedia for children and young people, the library serves as a hub for promoting culture and education among the younger generations. The library houses approximately 560,000 books and hosts various events and workshops to encourage a love of reading and learning among children. Additionally, it provides support to teachers and parents through educational resources and curricula, as well as an information and research centre specializing in children’s literature and development.

The collaboration between the Children’s Public Library in Muscat and the Russian State Children’s Library signifies a significant step towards strengthening cultural and educational ties between Oman and Russia. By joining forces to promote reading and learning among children, the two libraries are not only enriching their own offerings but also contributing to the advancement of education and culture in their respective countries. This partnership is a testament to the power of international cooperation in fostering mutual understanding and collaboration in diverse fields. It opens up new opportunities for exchange and learning, paving the way for fruitful collaborations in the future.
