The spirit of the UAE was showcased in the heart of Moscow’s Manezh Square last week, as traditional Emirati activities filled the pedestrian open space. The square was adorned with the colours of the UAE flag, attracting over 300,000 attendees from various parts of Russia and Asia. The event, titled ‘The Days of UAE Culture’, featured a range of activities, including an Emirati wedding show that displayed traditional wedding customs and rituals, captivating the audience.

One of the highlights of the event was the ‘Ayala’ performance, a traditional dance where participants lined up and danced to the rhythm of tambourines and drums. The performance left a lasting impression on attendees, with many expressing their desire to learn more about Emirati culture. Visitors also enjoyed performances by Emirati bands, a fashion show, and the chance to taste traditional Emirati dishes. The event offered an immersive cultural experience, showcasing the rich traditions and customs of the UAE.

The event attracted visitors from different parts of Russia, with many expressing their interest in experiencing the Emirati culture first-hand. For residents like Niki Kozilov, the ‘Ayala’ dance was a mesmerizing experience that left him wanting to learn more about Emirati traditions. Visitors like Anastasia, who came from St Petersburg, appreciated the opportunity to explore the cultural side of the UAE beyond its modern architecture and luxury living. The event provided a platform for cultural exchange and understanding between the two countries.

The event saw a significant turnout, with over 40,000 attendees on the first evening alone and a total of over 300,000 people experiencing the cultural offerings by the end of the program. The event is part of a larger cycle of events aimed at promoting bilateral cooperation between Russia and the Cooperation Council for the Arab States (GCC). Natalia Sergunina, Deputy Mayor of Moscow, highlighted the growing partnership between the two countries, particularly in the tourism sector, with an increasing number of travellers from the UAE visiting Moscow.

In addition to cultural exchanges, Russia and the UAE are also strengthening their ties in the tourism sector, with travellers from the UAE enjoying visa-free entry to Russia. In 2023, Moscow welcomed over 42,000 tourists from the UAE, and the trend continued to show growth in the following year. With 150 weekly flights from the Russian capital to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, the tourism industry between the two countries is flourishing. The cultural event in Moscow served as a platform to enhance cultural understanding and promote tourism cooperation between Russia and the UAE.
